¿SLI GTX 680 or GTX 690 or GTX TITAN or CF 7970 Ghz? - Page 2

Forget Titan, a 690 beats Titan by a decent margin at 1080p.
I thought about that, but it seems like hes wanting to way overbuild this machine. Hes talking about running SLI Titans next year. Its just not necessary in the least at 1080p. If there was the possibility of him adding 2 more monitors in a while it may make sense, not for a single 1080p screen.

the GPU industry is a place where GPU tech advances rapidly in 2 year cycles. GTX 580 was king of the hill in nov 2010 - dec 2011. but HD 7970 / GTX 680 easily beat it. so Titan maybe top dog now. but i can bet a 20nm GPU in Q1 or Q2 2014 will beat it for lesser power. its not difficult to see Maxewll GM104 based GTX 880 beat Titan as GTX 680 beat GTX 580. the best option is to get a single GPU for 300 - 400 bucks. overclock the hell out of it. enjoy the performance. use it for a year and then sell it and upgrade to Maxwell GTX 880 or whatever AMD equivalent. future proofing in the GPU industry is a futile exercise because technology advances rapidly. thumb.gif

In the valley benchmark 1300 core 7970's in crossfire are 15% slower then 1150 core Titan SLI. 1300 core 7970's in TRI are 27% faster then 1150 boost core Titan SLI. This is also without the proper crossfire application profiles for valley so it'll probably end up a lot closer once amd releases them in SLI and possibly 30%+ in TRI. Have to ask yourself. Is that 15% worth the 1200 dollars more titan's in sli will run you? For me personally i'm not going the titan route. Too much hype and not enough performance for the cash. Instead going with some reference 7970's in TRI and buying a motorcycle i've had my eye on. Good luck

Titan doesn't make much financial sense any way you slice it so if financials are important then you are thinking about other options. In 8 months time when the press over the refreshed cards starts growing, you might find yourself kicking yourself for getting that Titan. The refresh will bring plus 15% to what is already a 15% to 25% gap from current cards to Titan. The refreshed cards will have in all likelihood a miniscule gap to Titan which will be almost a year old, with upside down value.

I still think single titan overclocked would be great, but only if the OP were to use a 1440p monitor.
1080p can be maxed with a heavily overclocked 680 or a 7970 at 1200/1700...Futureproofing can only be done on the cpu front, to a certain extent, but gpus need to be updated yearly and sold to keep upgrading for free or loosing little money.

I'd say 1300+ core would be heavily overclocked. 1200 is light overclocking wink.gif

^^^^ This so much. No reason for getting the Titan now because of its high prices. Like tsm106 said, next gen is around the corner.

Three reason why I would want a Titan

  • Fastest GPU available...
  • E-Peen ..........
  • To be at top of the charts

Why I don't want any

  • New gen soon
  • My cards does the job so much for so much less.
  • THE PRICE' THE PRICE
  • The FEW performance gains will never justify a such high price.
  • etc...etc...etc

But do you realize how much hyped you were? This is called Nvidia marketing, and even at 1000$, people will by it. Its brainwashing.

Can you imagine trying to sell a Titan used in 10 months while 780s and 8970s are for sale? How are you going to ask for 750 bucks when the 780/8970 cost 500-550? Someone looking at a 780 is gonna laugh at you. This is like being underwater on your mortgage in a way with no Fannie Mae to save you.

Get 3 x 7970 for 1000$ and you beat 2 x Titan at 2020$ by a good margin.

Keep in mind that the GTX TITAN is 1000$! (Click to show)

I should make some graphs with price performance.
