i don't think a console game @ 1080p needs more than 2gb to look fantastic
With the amount of background work that could be going on ie live streaming, social media integration etc I think the 8Gb might give necessary headroom, especially if people are trying to edit their videos with the built in PS3 tools.

I want to know which PS3 will support 4K biggrin.gif

That's partially up to the devs. I'm guessing 2-3GB max for the OS and the res goes to the games to be split between the game-engine and video memory as the devs see fit.

With 2-3 or even 4GB that can be spent on video memory we should finally see some high res textures on the consoles and by extension the PC versions in multiplatforms.

Directx is a microsoft technology, so you won't be seeing that on ps4, the ps3 used opengl, so that's what it will use.

Battlefield 4 on PS4 only to run in 720P. This is disappointing if this is the trend games will still be rendered at low res and then upscaled to 1080P.. I really hoped the PS4 would have enough power for 1080P. PC will pull much further ahead of the PS4/720 than it did with current consoles. There looking dated before even launching. I know devs will make use of what they have and it's a step up from 360/ps3 but really would expect 1080P all these years after the original consoles..

You blame both consoles. Maybe one struggles to get 1080P @60fps in this first round of action games, forcing 3rd party developers to gimp the other console for parity.

That's really strange that BF4 will only be 720p/30fps. The GPU in the PS4 is roughly equivalent to a 7850 - which is enough for 1080p. I know the CPU is relatively weak, but with at least partial HSA impletmentation and console optimizations BF4 should be able to run at 1080p/30fps.

I was expecting ALL next gen console games to be 1080p/30fps right out of the gate.

edit: Maybe the rumors are true and the new Xbox is underpowered and hard to develop for?

If the PS4 could output 1080P no problems they would let it run that, it has nothing to do with what the Xbox 720 can do.. Loads of multiformat games from 360/ps3 ran at different resolutions to each other.. If the PS4 could it would. PC is really gonna pull ahead this time imho.. I hope the consoles get left behind rather than dragging down the PC :/

20 percent of the ps4's performance will be for games, movies etc etc. the other 80 percent will be an antipiracy / DRM service . Ho ray for $ony

If I'm not mistaken, the Killzone: Shadow Fall gameplay shown at the PS4 announcement was 1080p/30fps.

Consoles will always 'drag' the PC down. Consoles are where the big money is. We'll always be playing console ports on PC.
