Hello, I'm coming from a 4 year old QC3, and I'm more and more concerned that I am missing out on sound quality and comfort.

I am on the plane a lot.

Before, my priority was
1) Noise cancelling
2) Comfort
3) Sound quality

Now, I'm wondering
1) Sound quality
2) Comfort
2) Noise cancelling

I've looked at a lot of reviews, and while SH MM550-X seems to have better sound quality, it apparently has abysmal noise cancelling, to the point where it's not worth it as a "noise cancelling" headphone.

I've considered the QC15 too, but from what I've heard the Ziks have better sound quality and I can get an equalizer app for the iphone!

Should I be considering some other headphones?

What will you be using for play back? I take it you have looked at the sennheiser momentum correct?

Wow, the SH Momentums look incredible!

But it seems they don't have noise cancelling? It's imposibble to use normal headphones in a plane...

In-ear canalphones isolate much better than noise cancelling headphones, not to mention they are more portable and require zero batteries. Considered them?
Hmmm what do you mean when you say they won't work?? I simply can not imagine that a headphone with a proper seal is going to let in too much engine noise. Are you just really sensitive to 'plane noise'?

Sorry I don't mean to start an argument when I'm looking for help,
but my experience of being on boeings must be incredibly different than yours.

From my experience, "Proper seal" didn't seem to do much in these circumstances.

Normal headphones and earphones sound absolutely washed out and horrendous
with the deafening engines on top of the numbing effect that altitude has on one's ears.

On one flight I compared my QC3 with my friend's AudioTechnica m50.
AT m50 has much better sound quality than Bose, and compared to my QC3, which are on ear, the AT had a better "seal."

In this specific circumstance, the ATs sounded like $10 headphones, while the QC3 sounded "normal."

TLDR; please don't disregard noise cancelling

No no, I am just more confused than anything else. I did a lot of traveling last year and the year before that, and I did not have too much trouble with basic closed headphones. Heck I even bought them for like 30 bucks through walmart. They sounded like absolute dog turd, but at least it helped drown out the engine. So when you say they have to HAVE to have noise canceling, I am either shocked at how big of a sound difference there is between a 757 and a 747. I would have figured with the extra engines that the 747 (the one I flew on) would have been louder. Maybe there is just more noise insulation in the cabin than on a 757? IDK.

So in short I am not arguing with you, and please don't take any offense to what I say.

I say go ahead and get the parrot zik. If regular headphones won't cut it, then the Zik is pretty much your only option. The only other one I would even consider would be the bowers and wilkins P5s and they is only because they have a more interesting seal which might work better than normal headphones.
