So simply put you're saying you've never tried noise cancelling headphones on the plane? biggrin.gif

It's more than just a feature, you should consider them if you have an itinerant lifestyle like I do.

Also, I can appreciate your knowledge about the difference between a 757 and a 747, but please get back on subject if you have the intention of contributing something constructive.

No I have tried noise canceling headphones on the ground. They all make a faint hiss that I really don't care for. I personally think that stuff like ANC and the headphone volume control ends up leading your down a path of paying for more features rather than good audio. I used to get bose headphones for plane rides, but in the end I ended up sticking to some basic headphones.

I will say that I never tried the parrot zik, so maybe you will get lucky, but I have heard mixed reviews.

My point about the difference in planes is this. I was hoping that I could convince you to get basic closed headphones. While I understand you fly a lot. Chances are you probably spend a lot of time on the ground as well. ANC is great in the air, but it becomes counter productive when you are in a quiet room. Personally if I were spending 400 bucks on headphones, I would want them to work well EVERYWHERE. Unless you are a really rich individual who can buy several headphones for different occasions, then I would stay away from the zik. On the other hand if you do have a lot of money, then by all means, get the zik, but then get some other headphones for stationary land use.

Truly I was hoping you could elaborate on the actual sound the plane makes. The reason why is because sometimes there are isolation charts through websites like head room which can show you how effectively the seal of the headphone can block out certain noise. If you are curious, you can download a sin wave generator and listen for the tone the plane makes. Mark down the frequency, and then go hunt down some headphones that isolate well against that frequency.

Regardless of what you may or may not assume about my lifestyle, or what you think about noise cancelling technology,
I clearly stated in my first post that Noise Cancelling should be something that should not be disregarded in this very specific selection.

If you want to argue about 757, 747s, sine waves, or whether Noise Cancelling is worth it, please go argue that in other sections of the forum.

If there is a mod, please delete the entire thread so I can post my request again.

Lol, reading helps. I did not assume anything. I chose my words carefully. I said unless you are rich then don't buy A, if you are rich, then buy A and possibly think about B.

IDK about you, but that is not assuming anything. All that is, is giving two scenarios and two possible out comes.

Second off, if you REALLY want ANC, then great. Either buy the zik, or choose from sennheiser or bose. Either way you will be over paying by a lot and you won't be getting the best sound you can for you money because at that point you aren't paying for audio anymore. If you are fine with that, then go ahead and get what ever you want, there really isn't much option for you since your budget is fairly high. It will all be good for you, and I have said that a few times.

The ONLY way you are going to get your full monies worth out of your audio is by trying to get the best isolation possible, and then turning up your music a bit louder than normal.

If you have a problem with that, then I suggest you change your thread title to "help me buy the parrot zik". Otherwise I am doing exactly what you asked me to do.

Its one or the other, becuase the way you write is incredibly implicative, but at the same time I don't want to assume that.

Please let's just stop trying to prove ourselves and get on with the topic?
Why don't we just both grow up a bit? I'll stop with the arguing bs.

I'm honestly tired of it.

I take back anything I said that may have offended you, I really do. I think you make very valid points.

Alright. I am cool with that. And I apologize if I offended you.

In that case, I have two lasts pieces of advice. You can continue to read beyond that if you care.

1 ) Try posting on head-fi.org. People on this site are either gamers or audiophiles. Head-fi can help with more specific situations like yours.

2 ) I do not want to recommend this, but I also suggest you try to audition headphones at best buy. IDK what your best buy might be like, so IDK what headphones they might have on display, but you might be able to demo a few ANC headphones and figure out what you like and don't like. (You may have already tried this, and if you have then I am sorry for wasting your time).

Here is the problem. There aren't too many ANC headphones that are any good. By that I mean that the headphones are made of plastic, the headbands break often, they simply are not a smart investment.

Bose is not the company it used to be. Their headphones are not as solid, nor are they as good sounding as they used to be.

Sennheiser is a pretty solid choice. But they overcharge for their name. If you are ok with that, then they are a great choice. They blocked out a lot of noise at best buy, but I think that the pads on the PXC 450 don't seal the head extraordinarily well. You could always exchange the pads though and have a more quiet listening environment

Zik to be honest just seems like a total gimmik. The guy who designed it is some fancy designer which means that they are over priced for the look, the drivers were having issues at launch so the quality control isn't that great, and I hear there is a problem with audio interference.

That being said, they have fixed the driver issue, and I don't hear too many complaints about the interference. So it is a gamble. That is all I know.

Hopefully that was helpful.
