It is always nice to be able to use linux for the folding farms... nice to avoid buying copies of windows for all the computers...
I have run a few linux CPU folding rigs over the past few years... and I always hated not being able to stick a GPU in those rigs to fold on...
GPU folding is one of the few things that does hold me back from converting at least one of my computers over to linux..

It definitely would be nice to have a GPU client for linux.

I already knew that, its just the fact of getting the best driver working and implementing the best possible system settings smile.gif
post #14 of 33
the drivers working faster has nothing to do with the core support. It would be completely win win if we could have native cores for linux GPU. Wrappers and wine hold the drivers back in a pretty serious way.

I would honestly go almost %100 Linux if i had that type of freedom.

this would allow me to switch my cpu folding to linux as well and only boot windows on my desktop for gaming (which i pause folding for anyways).

Exciting possibility. I don't have a lot of spare time to mess with WINE, so the GT 440 in my linux machine is currently pretty idle. I'd love to add it into the fray smile.gif ...especially if, as you say, it's even more efficient than Windows! thumb.gif

I would love to be able to fold both my 7970 and my FX8350. Folding on my FX-8350 is only really worth it in Linux. I get about 20-25k ppd on my CPU in Windows and about 50k ppd on my 7970 with the new core 17. In Linux I get 50-60k ppd on my CPU and 0 ppd on my GPU. If i could get 50k ppd on my GPU and 50-60 on my cpu in Linux I would probably fold a heck of a lot more often.
