Is my motherboard dead again?..

Thread Starter
Well in the next 12 or so hours I will be buying a new motherboard because my asrock z77e itx motherboard had died (It was sporadically (would post once every 50 tried) posting, and when it posted and started booting it always froze on the windows splash screen or reset, it would get to the desktop maybe once or twice and when it did it was laggy and once again would freeze or reset)

SO after a ton of stressing I decided to RMA the motherboard, 2 weeks later I got a new motherboard and all was well and I felt great knowing my problems were behind me.... I was wrong... Yesterday my computer BSOD'd when I was out of my room and when I got back I was wondering what in the world happened. I restarted my computer, but it wouldnt post again! Same old story.

So today I looked into a new mobo and I think I will get an MSI Z77IA E53, that is irrelevant, just throwing it out there.

SO you may be wondering what troubleshooting I did.

I used the clear CMOS button between all of these. In no specific order.

1. Removed the mobo from the case
2. Removed every USB device I had
3. Removed all ram
4. Tried one stick of ram in either slot
5.Swapped ram out with ram from another computer I have around.
6. Removed all my storage, hdd and ssd.
7. Removed the cmos battery
8. Used CMOS jumper on mobo
9. Removed GPU from the start as it's not needed to post anyway.
I think that is about what I have done.

Tomorrow before I order the mobo I will take the PSU out of that working system I used the ram from.

My faulty computer is the Mini Itx build in my sig.

As I said I used ram from a working computer also, and it didnt work. I dont even have my hdds plugged in as I said also, and I will test psu tomorrow.

Why doesn't it sound like the mobo, it wont post no matter what I do, and getting the first replacement worked for 2 or so weeks anyway. I am not the only person having trouble with this motherboard either.

No offense, but did you even fully read my OP?

Yeah, this smells suspiciously of a fault with another component. Run memtest to test your ram, and if possible stick as many parts as possible in another computer (one at a time) just to test them out.

Edit: Also, usually its unlikely to get the same problem with multiple copies of the same product.

I cant memtest with my current computer as it wont post in the first place. And as I said, I used ram from a properly working computer and it still didnt work. Only other possible thing to replace is the psu and I am doing that tomorrow morning.

How exactly does this not seem like a mobo problem, especially considering the replacement worked for weeks no problem.

Everything I find online with my exact problems are always tied to the mobo in the end.

Press power button, fans spin, hdds spin, lights go on but no display either on the onboard video or GPU. And it does not send power to my keyboards so it's really easy to tell its not posting and not just failing to send video to my screens.

It wont post with no ram, no hdds or ssds, no usbs, no gpus.

JUST the mobo, cpu, and psu plugged in and it wont post. And with the corsair ram in with all that still wont post.

I will just stick to saying it's the mobo till someone actually says something that actully tells me why it couldn't be the mobo.

I know a board wont post with no ram, tell me the ABSOLUTE minimum you need to post because I think its just mobo, cpu, psu, and 1 stick of ram, right????

OK, is there any way that you can get some kind of beep code out of it. If this isn't even possible, I would test the PSU, and if that's fine, then it's a motherboard problem.

I'm sorry if the info that I have given hasn't been particularly useful, but there is not really much that I can suggest otherwise.

I know, I am a little grumpy as it's really late, and I have spent the whole day messing with this. PSU test tomorrow morning when I get up, which should be probably 4 hours from now mad.gif

This mobo has no speaker or led which doesnt help much.

I know its a bit of a cliché, but a good night's sleep can do wonders. I know there's probably not a lot of the night left, but some sleep is better than none. smile.gif
