Sense has been slowly looking better but 5 is just full of so much bloat.

TouchWiz has looked identical on all their 4.1.1 phones, recently, as far as I can tell. It's the same on 4.1.2 SGS2, all versions of the SGS3, SGN2, and SGS3 mini (all the Samsung devices I've had a look at personally).

IT's just their colour scheming is all wrong and doesn't seem to be able to make it's mind up about whether to use AOSP colours or not (lots of #ff33b5e5 colours all over the XML's, which hardly fit the blue/green colour scheme).

Though, once you do this:

To it, it's no different to AOSP.

Oh, I'm not referring to the cohesion within the department, Nature UX has done a nice job bringing all the phones together with the same UI. It's just some of their products, outside of phones, have really impressive design which doesn't come over to their phones. Part of the reason could be the recent lawsuits and Samsung trying to avoid it, but who knows.

Honestly, I wish they mixed Touchwiz with Sense 5.0. I like the look of Sense 5.0 but hate how HTC feels the need to bloat it up each time.

And agreed with everyone else. iPads lose this because they're overpriced... and I don't see how the Asus N7 is of poor build quality. But, then again, anything that's not Apple apparently has poor build qualtiy rolleyes.gif

and considering how quality is merely judged on "feel "... it just falls under opinionated reasoning as well. the metric behind quality varies from person to person. some think plastic is cheap, because it's inexpensive, but good polymers can withstand their integrity much better then glass or these so called quality "heavy" objects.

I'd much rather have a polymer that is sturdy and destributes the force over its frame while feeling heavy enough so that you have something in your hands then some heavy piece of glass that shatters on contact. the way it looks doesnt mean it is of quality standards.

I have a 16GB Nexus 7 I like it at any price..the leather is nice a grippy, the screen is nice though I prefer the Apple 4x3. I don't think I'd even swap the nexus for the iPad mini.

Aluminum is not automatically better than plastic or indicative of higher build quality. I fact, depending on the plastic used, it might be a greater investment than choosing aluminum as a material of choice.

The ipad mini is way to much for what it is. 32gb nexus 7 at 250 easily spanks the mini at 330

Perhaps "new OS" was a poor choice of words. It is, as you say, a customised version of the OS, but very much so that it's very, very hard to recognise the original AOSP underneath TouchWiz, or Sense. It's there somewhere, but large portions have been edited, obscured or removed entirely.

TouchWiz has some fantastic features, it just looks ugly as sin. Grab a decent AOSP themed and you have the stock AOSP look and icons, with the benefits of TouchWiz.

NOT TRUE you CAN install another desktop environment. Ever heard of ADW EX? Go Launcher?!?

You can't install a different MANUFACTURE gui however, because of how they embed them into certian portions of the phone and stuff.

But you can change the desktop environment.

The only thing touchwiz is, is a gui. that's it. Outside of that, there really isn't much of a difference between touchwiz, motoblur, sense is really just the desktop gui and lock screen.

Wrong. I addressed this. You can install Nova, Apex, Holo HD, etc, sure. But TouchWiz/Sense/Motoblur is still there. Even if you delete the launcher and use the replacement you downloaded, It is still there. You are STILL running it.

They're all embedded deep within the framework files. mainly, android.policy.jar, framework.jar, framework2.jar and the framework-res.apk files. It's in more, too, but those are the main files.

The launcher is just a part of the GUI, it isn't the whole GUI.
