Free to play, pay to win. I can't say that it isn't a brilliant marketing technique.... thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

You sound like an adolecent, trying to figure out how an adult thinks...   ?

So I will ask you:

Who in their right mind, prefers a free to play game with micro-trinket-transactions, over a bought game..?  <--- what demographic is that in favor of & directly targeting..?

I say:

CHILDREN & adolecent adults..  who have fragile egoes and have not learned to emotionally seperate themselves, from their feelings (id~ego~superego). Dev's rely on these knee-jerk emotional reactions to fuel their coffers.

In contrast, I'd buy a new Hockey Jersey ($125 bucks) for my nephew, before I would buy myself a set of armor/new weapon for $6.99 in a throw-away free-to-play game...

Adults are not worried about $5 trinkets... they have jet ski's, cars, boats, motorcycles, houses, children, etc..    Adults don't buy 5 games a year, they spend $50~$70 on a platform, then play & support that community over many years. On-the-other-hand, It is these transient children & kids..  who jump from game to game to game... to game..   incessantly looking for "friends" to socialize with and Vent/TS with. Children follow fads..

Also, adolecent thinkers are not emotionally capable of playing a single game...  (that requires time as a main investment), they need instant result for their newly evolving brain/world...   A full-featured adult game that takes years to make a name 4 urself, etc. (BF3/EQ,etc) with little rewards, for little work. (ie: work = results)

Work doesn't sit well with the Fisher Price, instant gratification kids we have gaming today.

Do you not see any of this^...   ?

f2p = bcuz I was feeling vulnerable one sat night, & needed that sword..   lol

(All based on impulse buying from an adolecent mind...)

*Understand age has little bearing on whether your an adolecent or not, u can be 19 and still be an adolecent.. or cater to your adolecent tendencies.

And you just assumed the entirety of the gaming population bases their fun on rewards rather than gameplay.

Problem isn't how fast you get rewards, problem is you're playing games for rewards. If I'm going to buy a game, I'm not buying it to chase a carrot, I'm buying it for the game, and could really care less about the carrot.

Achievements and non-matchmaking progression systems have been infinitely more harmful to games than microtransactions...

HAHA o wow that is ridiculous. Even Jim Sterling agrees with you http://www.destructoid.com/real-racing-3-infuriates-with-500-of-microtransactions-247411.phtml?nav=mobile&mode=mobile

$503 to unlock everything in the game, what in the hell is EA thinking? http://www.148apps.com/news/503-ios-racing-game-shocking-reality-iap-real-racing-3/

Why play a game that has fake achievements..?

I cant do it.. so instead i will buy my achievements..? If thats the case, then install the game and spend $100 on microtransactions, achieve everything and u dont even have to play.. why even play..

Gameplay is part of every game... moot

Update:
Quote:
When EA spoke of a future business strategy where “all of our games” include the dreaded m-word, reactions weren’t exactly positive. CFO Blake Jorgensen shared that original statement during the Morgan Stanley Technology conference last week, but he’s now used another conference—the Wedbush Transformational Technology conference—to redact that statement. As Gamasutra reports, Jorgensen says he meant microtransactions will figure into all mobile games instead of EA’s entire lineup.

“I made a statement in the conference along the lines of, ‘We’ll have microtransactions in our games,’ and the community read that to be ‘all games,’ and that’s really not true,” he explains. “All of our mobile games will have microtransactions in them, because almost all of our mobile games are going to a world where its play-for-free
