EA wants their games to be as accessible as possible to every single demographic, and that includes people who don't want to spend the time unlocking the game naturally.

The only way to affect the direction EA is going, is to not buy or pirate games that they roll this model into, and to contact EA with our discontent in a civilized manner.

EA did not do well in 2012, and I don't think that they will do well in 2013 if this behavior continues. Even more so if gamers step up, speak with their wallet, and contact EA about it.

Do gamers these days not like actually playing the game and they just want the maximum level and gear... if you just want that then you're doing it wrong. The whole idea and the fun of games is leveling up/ gearing up/ unlocking things as you get progressively further into or better at the game.
*sigh*
Wait, what? Oh, right, Goldeneye 64, Super Smash Brothers, Civilization IV, Halo CE, Call of Duty (original &2), and SW:Battlefront II are all TERRIBLE multiplayer games. I mean, how could they have expected a game to be fun without progression? Pfft.
...
...
Seriously?

Perhaps I should change industries, I approach game development with the mindset that the gamePLAY is supposed to be the most fun the game has not an arbitrary progression system used to create an addiction to the game.

Do gamers these days not actually care about the gameplay?

LOL: EA, making lemons out of everyone year after year. I'm one of them. But probably not for much longer, there are so many other great Devs out there with releases coming this year that I won't even have time to play BF4 (Call of Duty Edition)

*sigh*

I actually actively avoid games that require lots of unlocking etc. That's the biggest reason I stopped playing BF3, I just wanted to play the game and enjoy the gameplay instead of being restricted to some crappy equipment because I hadn't played enough. People will say that microtransactions like these are harmless since you can unlock them in game as well but the temptation for developers is to make the unlock tree bigger and bigger and the leveling up process longer and longer. People just don't have the time to spend that many hours in games unlocking things.

Why can't we just have UT, Quake, Halo CE style shooters where everyone has everything at the start? You could just jump into the game and play for the enjoyment you actually get from playing.

I don't have Dead Space 3, but I went and looked up what are sold in their cash shop--resources. It's already said you can find those same resources and not have to spend hours on ends to find them, so why are people so against this? Just because you want to find everything in the game or do it a specific way, doesn't mean your neighbor wants to. And if they have the money to blow, who cares as long as EA is not making it so you can't beat the game or the game becomes extremely more difficult without it. It's not like they're spending your money

FYI I don't even buy things for the cash shop, but I understand that not everyone is like me and rather buy that ammo pack than find it. Who am I to judge?

Indeed, it without a doubt it has influenced its game design. The way dyes work (locked to a single character and extremely rare to find in game), the way chests/keys work (tons of chests, hardly any keys, other than the infinite amount you can buy in the cash shop), lottery style holiday event loot. Not to mention the staples like exp/crafting/karma boosts and a method to just buy in game currency straight up, which were features that many anticipating the game sneered at other games for doing until it was announced that it would be doing the same thing.

I love the game world they've created, but dislike that the design was based off of nudging players to pay up for every little thing. It negatively impacts the immersion when the developers are constantly whispering that they want your real world currency for every little thing. Would you want to read or watch a fantasy work where the main character stumbles upon a bunch of treasure chests and exclaims "Oh well, I took a double shift at the office the other day, so I've got a little extra money to burn!" and proceeds to pop 5 keys into his hand to open them? Because I wouldn't. Games these days are just becoming less about immersion and more about money grabbing at every single turn.

I wrote this many times, and again i'm writing it, to show how it's going to be in 5 years:

- Trigger DLC: Weapons are uncomplete with this golden plate trigger ! It's only 9.99 !

- Ammo pack DLC: Got tired of carrying 2 magazines ? No problem, buy extra ammo pack it's only 14.99 !

- Real ending DLC: Haha we've just screwed with you guys, the ending was fake, here is the real ending, only 29.99 !

- X Game Premium: Golden plated triggers, ammo packs, real ending DLC, unlimited life in MPs, you have the right to ban players who killed you MP ! Only 59.99 !

Yep, this is the dark future of gaming.
