amd hd 7870 xt black screen

Hello, I stumbled on a thread here about something with bad capacitators on amd 7xxx boards.

Well , i just bought a hd 7870 xt from sapphire (hd 7870 xt with boost) and when i first hooked it up, it gave a black screen.

So , my monitor has a vga connection with a dvi-a to vga adapter, and my tv is connect with hdmi.

It gave me black screen on my monitor but the monitor said it had an image (green light on the monitor), but it was just a black screen, after swapping a couple of times with my hotkey between my tv and my monitor , my monitor picked up the signal completely. I didn't have any problems after that.

Could this have something to do with that issue. If that would be so, I would send the card back right away, to avoid further misery.

greetings

It sounds like it was a display configuration issue i beleve that when you hook up the Hdmi cable to the tv it wants to use that connection first before it would use the Dvi port that may be why u had a little hickup. if the card was bunk you would not be getting anything at all

Use kambustor to burn in the card and see if you have any issues after that or run a benchmark push the card hard adn see if it twitchs thumb.gif

ah , ok that makes me feel a lot better, i really like this card (over my old 5770 lol), i have been doing benchmarks, and playing far cry3 at max so i suppose it would already made some errors if it was a bad card

thanks for the info.

I bought the same card (upgraded from the same card too! 5770 FTW!) and did get a black screen once or twice as well but only because I was overclocking it.

By the way how well are youn running Far Cry 3? Mine seems to stutter even when it says 60fps at Very High (not Ultra) settings...

Farcry 3 is twitchy as it is with updates it should get better i am running crossfire and i get twitches too it is just the game there is no way my rig is the cause of the twitch it plays all other games just fine it is just farcry 3 i have tried diableing vsync and it helps a little but i see fram rate drops here and there not sure why it dose that lost planet 2 had the same issue when it came out and now it runs awsome full out settings and all.

Update : Managed to overclock the GPU to 1200 while leaving the memory at 1500 and the power & at 0 in Catalyst !!! Helped a great amount to eliminate slowdowns in Far Cry 3 with V-Sync on !

it si hard to have the twitching go away im surprised the game is letting you play over clocked at 1200mhz mine will crash all the time when Oced too far i can get to 1125 only on farcry it does not like the over clock past 1125 for me but it always helps to speed the stuff up to help with the stutters a little but i still think it is all with the program i shut off aa and it still dos it when getting a solid 60 Fps with vsyn lol
