Motherboard/RAM Selection

Thread Starter
I'm looking at buying a motherboard, but can't seem to find any good nForce boards out there right now. Perhaps, someone can help point me in the right direction.

The following is what is planned:
2 GB Dual Channel RAM
nForce chipset Motherboard for Core 2 Duo E6600 or E6700

What I have:
2x Nvidia GeForce 7600GS (SLI)
3x 100GB Maxtor PATA drives
1x Plextor DVD burner
1x Pioneer DVD burner

I do not inted to overclock, but use it for triple monitor setup and some light gaming. I would like to have the following:

- RAID 5 for PATA
- SLI
- Stable and Quality board
- Price range $150 - $250 (prefer to stay on the low end)

I also need a matching two RAM sticks.

If you guys are wondering why I'm getting the E6600 or E6700 for a value system, it is because a friend works for Intel and will be able to get them at a very attractive price.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome...

not planning on OC'ing yet you post on overclock.net? lol, j/k. the best NForce chipset board out there would be the Asus Striker, but that's out of your price range by a good bit. The nforce chipsets aren't very good OC'ers, but i guess if you don't really plan to do any oc'ing, that's ok.

does this look like it will meet your needs?

checking newegg...
Yeah, but the overclockers are theknowledgable ones. I might opt to overclock in the future, but as I do not have time to be mocking around with settings and testing for stability etc... it is just easier to leave it as is.

I actually did look on newegg and did not find many boards there for nForce. It is totally dominated by Intel chipset and I found less than a handful of nForce 500 series boards.

The striker and the "striker lite" is considerably more than what I'm willing to pay... the $250 price has to be well justified...

Optionally I could stick with a nForce 4 board. Do the dual 8x PCI Express interface affect performance much over dual 16x PCI Express for the two cards I have?

Yeah, I saw that board and it looks great. The ASUS P5N32-SLI Premium/WiFi-AP fits my need and more and looks to be my only choice other than the P5NSLI at half the price. It prefer something cheaper than $220 board though.

Why isn't there more nForce boards for C2D?

probably because they are newer and nvidia realised that their chipsets weren't the best for Intel chips, so they made the 680 chipset, which is pretty good, but expensive.

Are there any boards not listed on Newegg that might be cheaper? I want to avoid the P5NSLI and the ECS NFORCE 570 SLIT-A. Bad experience with ECS board in three times.

probably not. that's your best bet.

So I'm stuck with an expensive board or relatively "inferior" performance from AMD...

Do you know if dual 8x PCI Express ports have much impact on performance of the two listed cards?
i'm not sure, i don't think it would have too much of a performance hit on those two.

Are there any nforce 4 boards that work with C2D?
