[YT] Command & Conquer Interviews with Devs - Page 2

I always felt that the more important part of C&C games was the campaign with the full motion videos. The mutiplayer portion never got past the "fun to play with friends" aspect to mature into a fully competitive experience. For that to happen you'll need a different mindset from the one at EA. A mindset where communication with players is encouraged and frequent updates are a must.

i only agre that this game will have long term problems, if it would be abandoned. (and only because it's on Origin the same way TF2 is on steam).
But from the videos, forums, interviews and more it looks like they are pretty serious with this one and are going to fully commit to it. Just like Team Fortress 2 (hopefully) they would release new fixes and updates for free (on an already free game). when they plan to add another game to the new "Command & Conquer" service it doesn't meant that the Generals 2 game would be totally abandoned, it would mean that most of the devs would switch to mainly the new game and some would stay at the Generals 2 support. Also game Devs are quite talented, they can work on 2 projects (games) at the same time frame (i.e. develop two games or sustain one and make a new one).

Victory Games (though they are mostly seen as Bioware which is a misconception. they are just under the Bioware house and now called Bioware Victory) have stated many times that a Single Player Campaign will be in the game but not at launch. They've said that they want to work a little more on the game mechanics and units to refine it and only then release a high quality Single Player experience that is usually based not only on story but also great mechanics and synergy (balance) between the various factions, units and generals (sub factions).
Not sure if you heard but in one of the videos it was stated that they have now only 4 game modes but they have at least another 6 in the planning so i guess that they already have great ideas for campaign if not almost complete..

Also, the Lead designer is Samuel Bass. the same lead designer that worked on C&C3 and KW. (and unfortunately for him C&C4, but i guess it was hard to blame him completely since EA rushed the crap out of that game. the rumor goes that it was made in a few months i'm sure that by giving the dev team another 6 months at least they would have made C&C4 great even with the new system)

Edit:
Forgot to mention the multiplayer aspect of the C&C series. while many would say that C&C at its core is at the single player experience and the game lore, and i wouldn't disagree with them. But the multiplayer part of it is great and not small too. The Boom was at the release of C&C3 (good ol' 07') when there were ladder seasons and especially the Battlecast Primetime show and a bit later Command School. The Multiplayer boom of that time always pushed players to have better and better tactics and strategies and i personally enjoyed watching those replays of 1v1 and 2v2, especially watching the top champs play. Also, RA3 lacked a little in Single player but was a blast in multiplayer (and co op). The tactics were so amazing that every (good) video was a (no nuclear) blast to watch. (who can forget the Empire ore miner rush and attack).
don't get me wrong, C&C3 and KW had amazing games too, especially when one would clock his MCV and bring it near his opponent or the most amazing comeback where a player was left with only a power plant and a stealth tank.

No singleplayer release? Get ****ed. They also want to monetise gameplay and not just customisation or convenience.

This is going on the do not buy list.

Red Alert 3's campaign was a disaster because of your thick AI companion.

C&C4 just sucked.

Generals/Zero hour was the last good C&C :*(

We'll see. They talked about commitment for C&C 3 as well and it didn't go so well. Patches were delayed, shenanigans (nod MCV walk, GDI invincible tanks) were employed and there was a tendency of at least one unit or tactic to become overpowered with new patches.

The problem is that C&C doesn't really stand for much these days. The whole "going back to the roots" thing meant C&C 3 had less content than Tiberian Sun and then they completely switched everything for C&C 4 (which wasn't supposed to be a proper C&C anyway according to some).

They really need to deliver with this one.

Yes i agree, it was always sad to me when they stopped the support to a game. (though if you look at the bright side, by that time there was a fresh one like KW or RA3)

if you consider the whole content of Tib sun then yes it had more, but the release content of Tib sun is pretty much equal to the C&C3 content. (WW had many more things planned for Tib Sun, among them the Scrin faction, Red Tiberium and a little list of stuff i don't remember)

i really wish that C&C4 was delayed at the time to see what could have been accomplished with proper development time on a game. (who knows, maybe we would have loved the new crawler system)
but i have to give some respect to the C&C4 dev team, to make all of this game in a few months is an accomplishment of its own.

Not interested in C&C without single player, favorite part of General was Campaign, favorite part of ZH was the General's Challenge.

You didn't watch the video did you.

No single player on release but there will be one. Trying to get the beta and then game out first and make some money on it because it's F2P, before they bunker down and pump out a campaign. Why would any F2P game (delay a release date 6 months and then) come out on release day with a campaign? That's just stupid. How are you going to make money on that.

What they should do is release the campaign for a small amount of money 6-12 months after the games release.

Listen guy, I watched both videos. Both of those blokes talking about microtransactions are towing the company line.

C&C is something very close to me. I grew up on it, okay? The day that EA bought westwood studios and fired most of the staff is the day that C&C started going downhill. We are simply nearing the end of its lifecycle. Surely the "reboot" name tells you that.

I'd rather developers and publishers shut up about games that aren't ready to release, stop spending MILLIONS on MARKETING and put into game development.

I'd rather the game you buy is complete, with no pre-planned, on-disc DLC, premium services, map packs, and other assorted wankery.

The entire AAA games industry is pants on head crazy with stupid ideas that please only the shareholders and not the players of games.

The only additional thing I can say is don't preorder games from developers who do not have a good track record, don't buy DLC, don't buy premium services, and don't buy map packs.

I miss the days of REAL expansion packs...
