[Maximum PC] OCZ Desperately Needs Cash, May Sell Power Supply Business. - Page 2

I remember a couple years back when I saw their RAM for the first time and thought the heat spreaders were really cool. At that time I'd never seen anything like it.

Unfortunately for them they have made some pretty bad products the last couple years especially in the SSD market. So I'm not too surprised by this.

The absolute same thing could be said about Corsair's PSU division.

OCZ's PSU division would be an asset not because they manufacture the PSUs themselves, but because you'd be getting whatever inventory remains, as well as the OCZ and PC Power and Cooling brands. The former may not hold much weight with many enthusiasts, but for others it's a name they know and like. Ditto for PC P&C. You'd be buying a stable of fairly established PSU lines with a fairly good reputation, which you could easily build on, and a relationship with the OEMs OCZ uses (which includes Seasonic).

There's value in all of that, how much value really remains to be seen.

Had a friend with an OCZ PSU blew and destroyed his GPU as a result. Also had a few of their SSDs in both servers and my desktop........nothing but bad luck on those things.

No wonder they are hurting. They really made nothing but junk in the past.......although they do seem to be getting better now (or so I hear).

OCZ is my #1 "Stay Away From" company for a reason, they just don't make good products.

I learned that lessen too after my Vertex 2 and Platinum memory (1.9v).

Wonder who would even consider buying them out?

Many of OCZs PSUs are actually pretty impressive for them not being known for being a PSU manufacturer.

With the exception of only having a single Y-Cap on the ZT/ZS line they are actually very good units, and the ModXStreme Pro line isnt bad at all.
Especially in its price brackets.
Same for PC Power And Cooling, not As good as it used to be back in about 2006, but still more than respectable(depending on the model).

Im probably getting a RevoDrive 3 X2 over the summer, and it would be a shame to not have a warranty on it.
I dont exactly trust OCZs SSDs as ive had so many bad experiences with them.

EDIT: My bad, I meant ZT and ZS, not ZX

Am I the only person that hasn't had problems with his OCZ PSU? I've had the StealthXtreme for 3 years now and it's still a tank.

Sucks for them, I suppose; I've had nothing but satisfaction with their products.

I've had a RevoDrive 120, and Agility 2 die on me. My current PSU (StealthXteme 600W) has blown sparks in the past, but it didn't damage anything, and I've kept running it. I had to replace the fan on it about a year ago, though. It's going on 4 years old.
