it makes me wonder.... how do their testers deal with half performing gpus because of their software. You think that getting utilization so their people could actually test the game higher than 20-40 fps would be a priority...

not complaining because alpha is alpha but internally you would think people would be very unhappy with it.

Unless they are pulling that "alpha code is weeks older than our internal code" crap that some devs like to say..... like who in world tests old builds when you already got new ones? Some devs do it for these alpha/betas.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Getting interested in this game. Those in alpha, how do the graphics compare to these screenshots? Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I think so because I had to max everything to get the gpu utilization go up.

Are the weapon sounds better in this game? I'm a big fan of the JSRS gun mods in 3rd person, but the "clack - clack - clack" when in first person kills it for me on the rifles. As the owner of an Ak47 and a frequent shooter of other models theat one facet is so over the top it causes me to lose immersion. Everything else about the sound mod is great and I was really hoping that the Arma 3's sounds would be more in line with those in the JSRS mod.

Still haven't dropped the $30 yet, but if they've fixed the sound I'd definitely jump in in the next day or two.

I had been running it with vsync on and only getting aorund 30-40 FPS with sli 670s and an i7-950. I turned off vsync last night and my GPU usage went into the 90% alot of the time. Mostly in the 70-80s. The weird thing is though that my FPS didn't really go up that much. Only about maybe 5-10 most of the time. It looks like if they do some work this game might be able to run great.

Multiplayer though is a different story. I'm only getting about 20-30% usage and FPS in the 20-30 range. I really hope they get this game optimized much better then arma 2. The one thing about arma though is you don't need super high FPS to play it. Anything in the high 20s or better seems decent. Higher is better, but Arma doesn't seem to slow down as much as most games once it gets under 30 FPS.

No, just no!

20-30fps is unplayable, I find anything above 40fps for Arma 2 and Arma 3 becomes smooth, but below that sucks.

I will say that in a game such as Arma you don't need the 50-60fps of a COD or even the recent Battlefield releases to play. The game just isn't that fast paced and reliant on twitch responses in 99% of the situations. It's much more about positioning and coordination and that's less reliant on framerate than it is on actual brain power. Still I do prefer it to run as smoothly as possible.

Anyone have a community with a decent server up? Looking for people to play some co-op missions with.

I consider it much like crysis, sure, the FPS drops hurt(if they don't go below 30) but they don't put you at a significant disadvantage like some other games. Essentially, if you hate it turn some settings down, if you can deal with it do just that.

30fps feels very jittery when aiming unless the game is soaked in motionblur. Which the Crysis games are.

And sideways movement get very choppy.

I prefer atleast 40.
