you're right man. that's exactly what we need more of... as if we haven't had enough of that in the last 10 years... BASING code ON console and ported to PC is what we need more... right... or are you actually naive enough to think they will develop games in BOTH platforms independently instead of just developing for 1 and porting to another? you don't think design decisions will be watered down BECAUSE of console programming concerns? so yah, if you want your run/jump/cover/prone/interact all bound to the same button like what they did on later versions of mass effect/etc... you keep wishing that.
you DO realize YOUR PC is ALREADY many times more powerful then the upcoming "next gen" consoles right?
and you want programming codes that affect the next 8 years game development to be based on a machine inferior to what you are using RIGHT NOW? yes that's the "life cycle" of a console. roughly 8 years.. and like it or not, ALL GAME DEVELOPMENT WILL be affected by that limitation. not just consoles.
PC gamers know console has been the plague of game programming for over a decade now... and now YOU think it will "help" even more?
might want to put some crack in your starbucks next time so you wake up faster... what we NEED is to separate the PC side from the console side so it's not CRIPPLED by the limitations behind console considerations.... or we will be SUFFERING from the "BENEFITS" of consoles till BEYOND year 2020. what does this mean? the "next gen console" will be CRIPPLING games designed not JUST for haswell, but broadwell, skylake, AND skymount GENERATION PC's.... do you REALLY think that is "HELPING" PC gaming considering your current PC is ALREADY many times more powerful then the hardware for the "next gen" console ?
there is no console version of ARMA, an I truly hope there never will be. however I feel that may be too naive of a hope as well. maybe my next game will be star citizens if BIS ever gives in to the CoD crowd. at least RSI have openly spoken against being "consolized" by the industry and their code will stay pure PC. no console, ipad, android, firefox etc.. to water down the code. it'll be all PC goodness.
btw if you haven't realized it already, ARMA is MUCH MORE limited by network latency and server response time then frame rates... what they need to "improve" more is network protocol and server optimization for low end SERVERS, not the client software. i die MORE to desync and lag then i ever do from frame rates. the "problems" most people experience ARE in fact network related, NOT game client optimization related... what good is 150 frames per second if the server lagged so bad that you didn't realize you died 15 feet ago?
happened to me today. i shot a guy while he's coming out of the car, and his corpse fell out of the helicopter he was trying to steal
