You would be fine with stock clocks for gaming.

dude just edit your posts, this isnt' a chatroom.

please fill out your sig rig and get a profile picture.

Over 1.3v is not risky on ivy bridge, it just gets really hot after 1.3v if you dont delid (dont ask, just google it dude). Run small fft prime95 for 5+ minutes and youll see your max temp.

Depends on the game how much you need. I mean you really dont need more than an athlon x2 for most games, or one of the lower end pentiums. If you are asking will you notice a performance difference, yea, 200mhz is pretty big. It depends on the game but that means a better minimum fps, what is 'ah huge lag spike when the explosions happen or maxed out armies' becomes 'ah i can play through this explosion smoothly, its so much more easier to fight". Personally I do streaming so every 100mhz was a big deal, made the stream a lot better, it let me push higher fps and better quality.

i mean you are going to tune the overclock for a few days or weeks, and then you got it set for years and you dont mess with it. id say its definitely worth fine tuning.

with ivy and sandy since there's only basically 5 different settings, 4.5ghz to 5ghz, you incrementally bring it up. since you seem a bit limited on the chip and cooling, just figure out your 4.4ghz stable. if you can do that, then we work on 4.5, then 4.6. should be easy to do.

Overclocking the CPU specifically for most gaming is fairly pointless, It may get you a few more FPS but nothing major. An I7 3770k will play anything on the market stock, if you are overclocking to get better FPS in games, You need to look at your GPU more then CPU overclocking.

Wrong, it strongly depends on your settings and gaming behaviour. if u mod games u need every single mhz from the cpu too. so he´s got a 680..
dont get me wrong. see in a benchmark or game there are switching situations and in some the cpu is slightly bnecking and in others the gpu.
the higher the average speed of both, the higher the visible performance. so it is simply wrong to say that it is fairly pointless.

and yes, next step would be OCing his gpu a little more thumb.gif
