Metal, when exposed to too much force, bends and warps, but retains some of its functionality. Plastic, on the other hand, cracks, shatters, and utterly gives way.

Of cousre you can 3D print metal. It prints with a binder agent and then the part has to be put into an oven to fuse it. Currently there are limited applications. As far as casting goes, 3D sand printers are now commercially available that print in molding sand allowing for higher quality castings using any metal commonly used in industry including steel which melts at 2800F.

Its not a 10 ton truck but the concept is the same. Even if a 400Kg car is in a collision with a 40 tons 18 wheeler does not mean it will suffer catastrophic structural failure at least not as long as it does not get pinned between a wall and the truck.
