Upgrading from HD 6950s to GTX 670's

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of upgrading from my 2 HIS HD6950 IceQ X Turbo X's (flashed to 6970 shaders) to 2 GTX 670's and I wanted to ask a couple of questions about it: 1) Will they fit? As I know most cards are built in different configs by different companies and when I try to dig up dimensions I get either L x W x H or H x W x D and it's irritating that there isn't one standard across the board. 2) Is it beneficial to upgrade? In terms of performance and also general quality, and yes I'm aware that there are benchmarks posted throughout the Interwebs, but I'd rather hear from those who have had 'boots on the ground' so to speak.

Quality wise the 670's are one of the best cards i've ever owned , price wise yes , the 670 is the best bang for buck for SLI you can get , comming from a long relationship with AMD i can safely recommend you to sli two asus 670's DC2 or two evga 670 signature 2! CF is really bad nowadays and i really wouldn't trust the current drivers! 2cents.gif

In terms of fitting, yes they will fit. According to Thermaltake's FAQ, your case can take cards up to 12.4 inches long. Reference-design GTX 670s are 9.5 inches long, and your current 6950s are 10.5 inches long.

As for whether or not it's worth it, I wouldn't know as I don't do SLI/CFX myself.

As far as benches go, the lowest score for crossfired 6950s on valley I saw was 2465 on an i7 920. The lowest score for SLI 670s was 2635 on an 8150. Comparing the two scores leads me to believe that you would be making more of a side-grade at the moment than an upgrade. I love my sli 670 ftws. I can load up Crysis 3 totally maxed out at the very beginning at 40 fps, I havent played any beyond that so I can't comment on that part. I still need to find out what the best AA solution is however, since I can't tell the diff between much of the settings at first glance, but completely maxed out on the first level seems to get great fpa of 40 just staring at the part which gives me the biggest hit

Well, two 670s would equal almost 4 6950s, I just feel it wouldn't be worth it unless you went with 2. Love my 2 670 ftws btw. Maxes out crysis 3 on everything, even that top msaa setting at playable fps. Witcher 2 with ubersampling on was in the 50-60 range. Having tried much else yet, let me know if there is a game you want tested, and I'll see what I can do to let you know how these babies perform.

Crossfire is fantastic...especially with the 13+ Drivers. I don't understand all the hate. the 7XXX series cards are incredible when Crossfired.

two 670's is a pretty beastly option, would love to see the Crysis 3 FPS thumb.gif

as far as i know BD does not handle highend multi-gpu very well. Vishera does better. i'd say go for the fastest 7970/680 and 83XX series.

So sli 670s on crysis 3, only played the first level btw, has some interesting fps differences. I think that this is due to the "rope physics" which kills everything. But overall is very playable. Tried to do screenshots but they aren't reporting the actual fps for the scene.
