7970s are also a viable option... and I am assuming that by drivers you're referring to Crossfire?

I wouldn't mind having 7970's but are there any cheaper alternatives how would 7850's/70's run in comparison?

I haven't found the 670 and the 7970 to be the same price. 7950 = $300-$320 670 $320-$380 7970 $370-450.

Each seems to have a sale periodically, but to say they cost the same just doesn't seem right.

Here's your cheapest 670...$320 after rebate (+ free shipping)... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133452
post #27 of 48
I would go for 7950 crossfire for around $600. They are a bit cheaper than the 670 and have equal or better performance(depending on the oc). They also come with games you can sell to offset the price.

I don't know what cf problems the before poster was talking about, I have no issues other than my gpu's being bottlenecked in BF3.

I have had some Crossfire driver issues in the past, particularly when trying to play Battlefield 3, but that was prefaced by a couple months without issues, so I know AMD can perform exceptionally well, due to me being in the miltiary I just moved to my next base and I haven't had access to my rig, until the rest of my things get here. So I have to ask, how are Crossfire drivers working for you now? In addtion, I also hear that the new AMD drivers are adding some serious performance increases.

I had a few issues the first day I got them. Had to clean drivers off the pc, reinstall ccc, disable ulps ect..(same thing you do with nvidia) But after that they have been golden, the new drivers are great.

On my 6000x1200 res I can play new games almost or completely maxed out @ 60fps. Games look great, play smooth stay cool, top card about 75c max. Also I have noticed that when the fps drops down to 40 or so in a game I don't notice it like I did with my old 6970cf, its much smother than it was with the older gen cards.

If you want a 670 you wont be let down, they are nice cards. It's just the 7950 is around the same performance with more vram and free games for a bit less money.
