Sapphire OC HD7870 dead

Hello,

A few days ago i bought a Arctic Accelero III GPU cooler for my Sapphire 7870 OC graphics card. I installed everything properly, got with Furmark load temps of only 60°C.. So that's nice, until i noticed the value VRM TEMP in AIDA64 and after 10min stresstest it was 95+ celcius. Okay this is way too high but i let it be and suddenly the pc crashes, i got black screen with vertical green lines and a strange electronic weirdo noise from the pc speakers..

So i powered off my pc and wanted to power it back on; no picture..

Me getting pissed off and first i cleared cmos battery, change ram & psu, use another pci-e lane which all resulted in a black screen with the motherboard saying error 62 in dbug led. I even installed the graphics card in another pc, and also; no picture & post. Tried different hdmi, dvi & vga cables, still same problem.

In the end i connected my screen to the onboard gpu on the motherboard and that went great.

Damn i even found this atiflashtool.exe on google and reflashed the bios but still nothing.

Is there anything i can do? Please i'm so desperate, i can't game for at least 4 weeks if i have to RMA this... and i hope they will accept my warranty because there is still traces of the glue from the Arctic GPU cooler.

Clean it up as best you can and RMA it is the only suggestion I've got. Out of curiosity, did you install the vr heatsinks correctly?

Sigh i guess that's the only solution frown.gif and yes i mounted the heat sinks okay but the first layer of glue was too thick. I re-applied again but not so much. Soon after that my GPU went dead.

The latest overclock was 1150mhz, 1230mem and maximum voltage. It did work on stock cooling but the noise wasn't that great so i thought lets buy this Arctic GPU cooler and enjoy of cooler temps, longer lifespan.. but it only resulted in a dead videocard wheee.gif

I installed the default cooling back but if you take it apart you will see traces of thermal compound and glue i really hope i will get warranty.

I believe you only have 10 minutes to apply and mount the vr heatsinks after mixing the grey/white tubes together (although some people report having half hour). After that you need to wait at least 8 hours I think, I waited a whole day, before mounting the card. You did this, right?

Only reason I bring this up is because I recently installed the Arctic Accelero Xtreme on my 7970 and core/vrm temps dropped dramatically so I'm not sure what problem you could be having other than using furmark to cook your card, redface.gif.

I also don't understand frown.gif

And no... i've wait only 10 minutes, it seemed sturdy .. and i only found 1 white tube in the package of the Arctic cooler so i applied this, i really don't understand why this card isn't working anymore. It sucks i have no spare gpu and DAAMN 4 weeks long time.

Maybe i'm connecting something wrong? Anything? I did check pcb for any exploded transsistors thingy's but everything looked okay....... I'm really out of any idea's to FIX this card.............. frown.gif

I downloaded the manual for your version of the cooler and while there are a few differences (1 tube, quicker curing time for glue) it's pretty much the same. RMA it and pray is all I've got left, sorry frown.gif.

Lol i'm not religious but i will pray for this. The original rubber things on the memory modules are missing and covered with traces...
