So you understand why we don't think this is a good idea, but still don't how anything could go wrong if this is allowed? Nobody is alleging that Samsung straight bribed him.

I'm not making anything cloak and dagger. I'm talking about politics. There's a ton of you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. Even if there is no unethical intention, it is still not something that should be condemned. That's why I used the Medical Director analogy I did.

Whether there are implicit contracts, explicit back room deals, or it's completely innocuous, the fact remains that there's the appearance of corruption and unethical behavior. People need to trust the legal system and any time there's the appearance of corruption, that trust is eroded. That's why the American BAR association has yanked licenses from lawyers/ex-judges in cases like this in the US.

All I'm saying is that this is not something that should be allowed since it creates the appearance of corruption and has the possibility to sway judges consciously or unconsciously in the ruling of future cases.

Do you genuinely think this woman who earns the amount of money she does with such an important job, cares about whether Samsung go under? She isn't sitting at her computer every day defending Android to the hills like yourself. She doesn't give a flying proverbial. She cares about the law, and that's it. Saying she's got a grudge (which is based on nothing) is you being biased, so why should we not similarly assume that the UK judge isn't? Because that would be moronic wouldn't it?

I understand. I used to think that things could change just because it was the right thing to do, but over the last 50 years, I see that is less and less likely, and given the corruption that plagues the world, I have given up that ideal pretty much.

aka

The older I get, the more jaded about government I get.

This thread is full of insinuation of bribery or backroom dealing.
Samsung could be one of many companies he provides legal advice for.
Legal advice is far removed from legal representation or judging, his knowledge in his field is a valuble tool to Samsung, they would be fools not to exploit it.

since you applefan boys are gonna claim that apple hiring this ex-judge is unfair, why dont i accuse lucy koh of taking money from apple under the table? they're both unfair.
the fact is that there is no evidence of this ex-judge being hired by samsung prior to the decision, and there is no evidence of lucy koh being bribed, but you guys seem to like to suggest the prior, if you wanna distort reality, so be it..arguing with the demented on the internet is impossible and i have a physics exam tomorrow. so good luck, have fun and let the accusations go on.

You are basically proving our point. If samsung do something unethical then you can look over it but if Apple do the same you feel the need to attack them and point out their wrongs. He isn't a fanboy. Why would you even say that in the first place? Is it because he's defending them? What's wrong with that, I mean aren't you defending Samsung?

I never read the whole thread, but I would like to make one correction. Samsung can not hire the judge as a legal expert. That would be nearly impossible. If anyone would look at it, I would bet that the judge was hired by Samsung's lawyer firm as a expert. Kind of like accusing a person of hiring a mass murder if they hire a lawn mowing service that hires a serial killer.

Then question come down to it, does a law firm have the right to hire anyone they feel will help you in court? Do you want to face a criminal charge in court and have your lawyer tell you that your accountant could come in as a expert and prove that you did not do any wrong but since he is your account, that would appear to everyone, but the legal world as wrong?

Bottom line, it is samsung's law firm that hired the judge. That will get an extra amount of legal review and if there is anything wrong with it, a long talk to the bar. Which could in turn revoke people. But do not blame samsung for something that a bunch of lawyers are going to do.

Same applies to apple, blame the lawyers not the client.

how is it unethical to hire someone?
1. What's wrong with hiring someone that does not have anything to do with lawsuits that you are currently involved in(since the previous ones concluded, and the judge retired and the fact that there is no evidence that he took bribe before the trial with samsung vs apple)

2. which company in their right mind would hire a judge that tried to make them go under?

i can't believe you guys have fallen to the point that you try to alter logic... i hope none of you run businesses..honestly...
