7950 overclock in ITX rig with 3570k

Recently put together an ITX rig with a 7950 Vapor-X and 3570k on an Asrock Z77E ITX board with a 600 watt Corsair CX. Today I decided to see what the limits of my CPU were in the rig. The thing is every time I made my way up the CPU overclock ladder my GPU overclock had to be decreased to complete a run of 3dmark 11. This seemed like a power supply issue, but shouldn't 600 watts be plenty of power for 1 overclocked 7950 and an overclocked 3570k? Only other things in the rig are an H100, a 120gb SSD, and 8GB of ram.

I test my 3570k for 4 hours at 1.25 volts (1.27 in CPU-Z) in prime at 4.8ghz and it ran great only 1 core hit 80 degrees. After feeling like it was all good I give it a whirl in 3dmark 11 and a previously stable OC(When my CPU was at 4.4GHz) now can't pass in 3dmark 11. Specifically it fails during the first physics test, the most cpu dependent test.

This also happened when I ran my CPU at 4.6 GHz, EXCEPT I didn't have to decrease the the overclock as much to make it pass.

Basically I have this curve where the lower clock my CPU the higher I can clock my GPU or vice versa. Why would these things be interacting this way, never experienced on a non ITX rig.

Despite your findings, I don't think it should make a difference. Prime is not necessarily 3dmark or video game stable unfortunately.
you can try decreasing your PLL voltage a little bit, check out sin0822's guide for more details. that'll enable you to up vcore.
you haven't specifically tried running your GPU at stock and your CPU @ the 4.6ghz...

I'd say take it slow, do CPU only until you find it totally stable with GPU at stock then overclock the GPU... it's a work around your "problem" but the CX series isn't bad

Tator Tot our very own, posted in that thread.

It's just weird that a pattern like that would emerge. Like you said the PSU is of quality. I guess I will just run a lower CPU clock since it's a gaming rig. It's too bad though a 3570k that can run at 4.8GHz under 1.3 volts seems like a rather rare thing.
