Crossfire X [6870/7770]

I recently bought a friend of mine a Saphire HD 7770 Ghz Edition card, and I ended up liking it a lot. So now I'm planning on buying one for myself as well, but I still want to put use of my current card Saphire HD 6870. You guys think both cards can work together via Crossfire X, or am I being too hopeful?

no you cannot CF a HD 6870 and HD 7770. the best option for you would be to sell your HD 6870 and go for a faster single GPU like HD 7870 Tahiti LE or HD 7950. what psu brand/model do you have ? how many amps on +12v rail ? which country are you from ?

PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk III (600W) and I live in the United States. $150 USD is my absolute cap, maybe I should just hold off upgrading for a while longer.

if you sell your HD 6870 you can get USD 100. so if you can spend USD 150 more get a HD 7870 Tahiti LE. you could also save up a bit more and spend USD 190 to get a HD 7950 boost.

Sapphire HD 7870 XT - 250 ( 235 after rebate)

Sapphire HD 7950 boost - 290 (270 after rebate)

HD 7950 boost is a doubling of performance from your current card. at same clocks HD 7950 is 5% slower than HD 7970. HD 7950 boost easily overclocks to 1100 Mhz and matches HD 7970 Ghz

1920 x 1200

HD 6870 - 55
HD 7950 iceq x2 boost - 100
HD 7970 Ghz - 115

HD 7870 Tahiti LE is 15% slower than HD 7950 boost. at the same clocks its close to 20% slower.
