EA predicts huge rise in costs for game production

Thread Starter
An interesting interview session with a Rep from EA

Quote:
During the session, Tascan indicated that this shift would likely occur soon, saying: "I'm not sure that the model we have here will be the model in 15 years, and that the EA you know today will be the EA you know then. I'm sure we'll do things differently, just because of the cost. The cost of games now is crazy
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=21454

I for one disagree with what's said here as in my opinion he's basically telling smaller companies 'you might as well **** cause we have more money to put into games'. But EA is on my s^%$ list since 2142 so I might be biased

They spend that much $$ on development, and still don't release games that are complete. Sorry EA, not buying it.

It's pretty bad they have all this money and smaller companies/dev's can come up with better and virtually bug-free games for the same price tag or less.

Games in general have been getting more expensive to produce, what with the prettier pictures we expect from our games nowdays (and some other issues as well). Take PC gaming for example. When I was a young and energetic gamer (not long ago) I remember all these small developers churning out games left and right; then all of a sudden all went dark and all you could see were the fog lights of a few big companies. Rather sad if you think about it.

How much did it cost them to make a new skin for BF2 and call it BF2142?

Really, if they didn't release such crap products I might understand. But their products suck.

And how does Valve manage sellings games 20 bucks a pop? If your efficient, you can make amazing games that dont cost that much to develop. Something that EA hasnt learned yet.
