Well theres a reason they always get beat for game of the year awards nowadays by the likes of valve, relic, and even blizzard which is another very large game comapny now but honestly does still make good games... and arent afraid to make people wait a few months so theyre product is near perfection, I mean they delayed burning crusade for the holidays

I think it's pretty crappy that many of us on here have these nice PC's that can run all games on high settings, and a really good game to utilize that power comes out what, like 3 times a year? Maybe four? What happened to the days when a kicka** game came out for the PC every 2 or 3 weeks? I kind of feel like I waisted my money in building a rig that can get over 7000 in 3dmark06 because nothing comes out anymore. Look at the games nowadays, when a good game comes out it is like famous for being good (HL series, Quake series, FEAR, Farcry, etc.) because no other games come out. Games that kicked a** used to come out and not get talked about because another had come out since then that was more bada**. Kind of pisses me off. Anyone else feel that way?

I believe the console market may be what is driving up the costs of game production. It might just be me, but games are really maturing, with titles and consoles becoming part of mainstream society. I don't recall mentioning "Diablo 2" to just anyone without being looked at funny. Halo on the other hand... that's just a normal kids game! Yeah!

You must not understand how hard it is to write a game engine, lol

Well to be right Battlefield 2 was mod. Battlefield 2142 was a mod too (with shaders/upgraded code base)
you can't expect much from EA and a game engine from Stockholm, Sweden

Anyone here play Command and Conquer Renegade? it's on a game engine called WW3D (Westwood .w3d not the shockwave .w3d) and they used the SAME game engine to make command and conquer Generals along with BFMEI and BFMEII (look for w3d.big(big compressed file containing .w3d models)) They just stuck a new Interface and GUI and called it a game... and alot of people play BFME games

Battlefield 2 was a good game, buggy, but still fun. Battlefield 2142 is buggy, but still fun because the same gameplay.

people, EA just sells and market the games. Its Dice that produces BF2, and Westwood that produces CNC games, with ofcourse some influence from EA.

Yeah shame Westwood, kinda died. C&C was good stuff, hopefully Petrogliph'll manage to do something with it since quite a few of the former Westwood dudes went there.
'bout time.

How can they say that the prices for developing games is going up when everyone says that coding for DX10 will be SO MUCH EASIER? Maybe it's been tough to code the recent DX9 games, but they're saying prices will go up. I think EA is just looking excuses. Most people that read that article have no clue about D3D10.

EA production costs have risen... probably due to the fact that their programmers sued and won for overtime pay. They were working 60-80hr weeks and still being paid base salary.
Once again...

Too damn right. My Pa was a game programmer 3 years ago. He said that the industry had just turned programmers into slaves. They got in serious trouble if they didn't produce onime and were working extra hours left right and centre without even being paid decent amounts of money. I value steam hough. They are one group who make effecient games. Epic are also doing well with Unreal Tournament and Gears of War. Now those are games of the future. Not any of EA's BS thatt they release
