High temps on liquid cooled 3970x - Page 3

If you want to improve the Tim without the PITA Indigo Extreme, I can vouch for Prolimatech PK1. I use it for everything, including my 3930K and 670, and I have yet to find a better paste. PK3 is supposed to be an improvement over the original, and testing seems to agree, but I have not used it myself so I hesitate to recommend it.

Thanks nleksan! I appreciate your suggestion. I just went back with arctic silver and i'm gettin really good temps, but when I decide to try something else I'll check out PK3. I'm getting idle cpu temps at 15-20 degrees celcius and 30-50 degrees celcius on various loads. Thanks!

Follow the installation manual. The pump must be off during reflow process, no matter how horrifying this sounds. As one user said before, 79°C is not hot enough to reflow Indium alloy.

Yea, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I did have the pump off. The issue was that I had the waterblock too tight and as the indigo xtreme was liquifying it would just clump up below the cpu and waterblock...unfortunately, I failed twice and EK only sent me two of them. I'll try again some other day. Right now ArcticSilver is working fine and easy to apply. Thanks!
