My i5 3570k won't overclock....Why?

Thread Starter
So, I have an i5 3570k and a Sabertooth z77. I updated the BIOS today, and then I tried to overclock from 3,4GHz to 4,2GHz. But when I place the number 42 on the multiplier, and press enter, it comes back to 34. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

Have you desabled all the power saving settings in the BIOS?

What tool/ utility are you using to find the actual clock values?

Do not do the base multiplier, up the boost multipliers...

I have disabled all power saving settings. Speedstep, C1 and so on. I could try to change the boost multiplier if it was there. It isn't. I have activated the turbo boost, but the BIOS won't show the turbo boost clocks.

Make sure you change the Overclock Tuner setting (I think that's the name on the Sabertooth) to Manual or XMP - that'll expose the turbo multiplier settings. And you don't need to disable the power saving, they work just fine with Ivy overclocking.

I haven't tried to set them to XMP. They are set to manual. I'll try that later. Thanks.

I tried selecting XMP and nothing changed. The BIOS won't show the turbo boost clocks.

So if you change the AI Overclock Tuner setting (on the AI Tweaker page) to Manual, it doesn't open up two options underneath - BCLK and Turbo Ratio? If it does change Turbo Ratio to Manual, then you should be able to change it. If not, can you post a screenshot of the AI Tweaker page - maybe they changed something in the BIOS.

Well, when I change the AI Overclock Tuner setting to manual or XMP, only the BCLK options shows up, but the turbo boost clocks keep hidden. I'll take a screenshot right away.
