Feedback on Unlocked GTX 670 Bios (Gigabyte)

Thread Starter
Hi guys. I am getting a little itchy with all this Titan news to bust up some of the scores the Titan users are putting out. I want to unlock the voltage on my Windforce 3 670's. I found the thread in OCN that has the BIOS and I was hoping for some feedback from you guys as to who's done it, who had problems, etc.

The Windforce cooler is amazing, right now mine are operating at different clocks due to Kepler boost.

GPU1 - 1176 Core, (+75 offset) 1603 Mem (+202 Offset)
GPU2 - 1241 Core (+75 Offset) 1603 Mem (+202 Offset)

First off, these don't have to match, right? Due to inherent Kepler boost, their boost clocks are going to vary.

Neither of them ever go above 65C when Benching with Unigine, etc. They also never go above 50% fan, that's how good this fan is.

I have gotten familiar with overclocking CPU's by upping voltage, keeping within temp limits.. what are the hard voltage limits for these 670's that I should stray away from?

Is it the same principle that.. you overclock your Core until it stops working, then bump up the voltage a bit.. and work the core up again? Same exact process? I figure I can squeeze a lot more out of my cards, but if I put the Core offset to +100 the Video drivers crash, so I assume it just needs more voltage.

Any advice i smuch appreciated thumb.gif

Even with the unlocked voltage BIOS mod, the highest you can go is 1.21V. So there isn't a whole lot of room to play with.

Well that is a big difference from the 1.75 I get. Don't you think I could easily get another 100 mhz out of it? That is a decent amount considering I am stuck at a +75 offset right now. If I set them to +100 the driver crashes during Heaven. I just assume that is an issue with it attempting to draw to many volts. It only uses about 65% power draw during that run, so I have to assume there is a decent amount of headroom.

Now that everyone is back at work (i.e. browsing OCN forums biggrin.gif ) wanted to make this bump. I think 2+ days is allowed right mods?

I just installed my water cooler this weekend and flashed the modded BIOS (using the KGB unlock) last night. I didn't play with it much, but so far I went from 1280 to 1333 with the increased voltage. I tried 1359 using my original offset, but got a driver reset in Valley, so I think the best I'll get is 1346. So a 50-70 MHz increase with 1.21V over 1.175V. The stock boost with the new voltage was 1200.

That's not too shabby. Was their noticeable temp increases with that much voltage bump? Right now with mine at +75 each (mind you they boost differently due to varying inherent Kepler-boosts) they really don't go over 65C ever in Valley.. they could do with a little more heat, especially since the fans never go above 50%

I don't know, since I put the water cooler on it at the same time. I was having trouble keeping mine under 70C without the fan ramping up too much (over 70% on the reference cooler) so I imagine bumping to 1.21V would have made that worse. The Windforce cooler should help a lot though.

Yeah these windforce coolers are the nicest air coolers (in my limited experience) I've ever witnessed. Blew my mind how cool/stable they are. Even with a pretty moderate overclock these things never go over 60C or 50% fan in any games.

I guess I'll try the modded bios on em and see how far it gets me.. although.. I have no reason to, no games have trouble yet =P
