Need help picking a card for 120fps solid in BF3 - Page 2

Asrock extreme 3 poor for overclocking the fx8120 due to rubbish vrm 4+1 phase, only mild overclock available before cpu throttling. Fx8120 needs to be at 4.8 and above to run a single 7970 in bf3 mulitplayer. I have yesterday replaced my fx8120 which maxed out at 4.7ghz with the fx8320 that is stbale at 5ghz. I run 2x 7870, the difference in bf3 multi is a minimum of 25% gpu useage on minimums. My 2 cards could easily drop into the low 60`s useage with the fx8120@4.7. Fx8320@5ghz last night on armoured shield both cards avg 100% with the lowest drop to 80%. Huge upgrade

So who are the big name manufacturers for these ati cards, like nV Asus and frozers. Lifetime warrantys?

Also thx for the 8120 tip, I could swap it out later. I can't get mine over 4.4 stable, kinda new to overclocking though

Your chip will do over that stable but the board will throttle it back. The vrm heats up causing throttle. I own the fx8120 and the asrock extreme 3 990fx . Remember that bf3 multiplayer is very cpu intense and if you plan on spending quite a lot of money on a gpu upgrade you must also have the hardware to drive it or it will be overkill. hence me swapping out my fx8120, i have 2 gigabyte 7870 wf3 that were not being pushed anywhere near their limits, therefore were redundant to a point. Although even the fx8120@4.7 pushed out with my gpu`s in bf3 minimums of 80 fps and max round 150.

Guess that's why I have 1.45 volts in bios but in hwmonitor it shows 1.36

So if I want to move to 7970 what order should I get parts CPU board gpu

Edit current gpu usage is maxed

Turn off MSAA and add another 570. Also overclock higher. 4.6+

To be honest, what I would do is wait until I have enough money for a better CPU and GPU, buy everything at the same time and no hassle. Your CPU will bottleneck your GPU but it will still be faster than the 570. Also, let me add that a single GPU is ALWAYS a better idea than SLI/XFIRE.

This is a commonly spoken statement. Do i agree with it? no. I can report no crossfire issues, driver issues have been aplenty since buying my gpu x2 but no crossfire specific issues whatsoever in the games i play

The games YOU play. There are plenty games that have crossfire issues and they aren't fix immediately. On the long run, single GPU will definitely be a wiser choice. If he buys another 570 and he wants to upgrade in a year what option will remain for him? Another 570? Sell the two 570 for less money than he could've made if he sold his 570 in the first place?

Personally, I'd go SLI/XFIRE only on the current generation if one card isn't enough. The resale value degrades fast nowadays, especially on older generation hardware.

2600k 4.4GHz + (2x) GTX 680's SLI

No issues getting a solid 120fps at in-game "High" settings (at 1080p)

I normally play at 60fps w/vsync + Ultra settings (as my monitor is limited to 60Hz)

I would say add a second 570, and tweak your settings and you should have few issues.

Buying a Titan won't give you a massive enough boost to justify its cost. (As your current CPU will be holding you back, as previously stated)
