[Hardware.info] Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan 4-way SLI review - Page 5

quad-sli of titans is a whole different ball game. I can top my GPUs easy at 1440p in crysis 3, but maybe quad titans are topping their CPU instead.
A low CPU (either at stock or even at 4.5ghz, I don't know in what ghz they tested on the games), can cripple the GPUs in general, and the more you add, the more CPU is needed just to sync the cards with the drivers. If your CPU is already bottle-necked, adding another card will just make it even worse.

This means I understand their numbers if they used the CPU at stock or at least a low OC was used, and the drivers are just not ready for it.
You might end up having to use an IB-E cpu at 5.5ghz to truly stop bottle-necking the GPUs. I don't know until we get better drivers. Even guru3d got odd numbers at tri-sli sometimes, which shows there is some bottle-neck, and it might hinder the SLI.
so, you are taking my bet? ..lol Only thing I am claiming right now is that this review is full of inconsistencies, and does not jibe with my own experience, so it is stupid..and this observation is based on my own facts
..the rest is a wager..why not have some fun..lol smile.gif
And, by the way, I think that you have nailed it on the head.. the inconsistencies are indeed due to gpu/res bottlenecks ..with which I completely agree

It looks like that hugely negative scaling came from adding more GPU power to a vram bottlenecked system, they may have had the AA at a point where the 2GB on the 690 simply couldn't cope with it.

I would be inclined to believe it except I don't get below 0% negative scaling when I turn up max AA with the same res. I am thinking that it may be the CPU bottle necking it in the review, which might explain other weird results too.

Thread cleaned ... let's leave the posturing and invitations for 'bets' and such out of the thread please.

If someone has HARD DATA to PROVE the point that the data in this article is corrupt or invalid, please feel free to post it up, along with all relevant details like settings used, listing all the hardware you tested with, etc.

I'll take your word for it, I have only used a single 690 and only at 2560x1600 so I was taking a guess. tongue.gif

I will post hard data and benchmarks with same comparisons for the benefit of the OCN community here smile.gif
I will do this, once I have my quad Titans which I expect next week, and then allow sometime, as I have a fairly busy work schedule with various travels, to get my set up going.

I think the biggest question is, why the hell are they doing these benchmarks at medium settings?
Would've loved to see the games tested with Quad Titans use the timer "Hack" that was used with Crysis 3, GPU usage up 10-15 percent on a 680 SLI setup with a 3770K and FPS up 15-20.

The conclusion section is very interesting though, they recommend 3 cards for two of the tested games (Crysis 3, Metro 2033) for a min of 40FPS and 4 cards for one of the tested games (Metro 2033) for a min of 60FPS. But what is most surprising considering how many articles have repeatedly outlined the smoothness of Nvidia card versus AMD (Frame Latency) is that any higher than 2 Titans the frame latency gets higher than 30ms for less than 99% of the time and this creates an un-smooth experience. I guess drivers just need to mature but everyone already knows that based on all the reviews of this card now.

I agree, besides showing even the 3960X couldn't keep up. Should have tested baseline at 2560x1600/1440, 5760x1080, and 7680x1600/1440 for setups like that.
