AMD 65 nm launches - Page 5

Hopefully these 65nm K8 will hold AMD over until K8L, lets see how they clock!

Edit: I don't see them in stock at the egg...

They could release lower TDP chips once they get enough or they might not even bother this time around, 65w is pretty low already
Tankguys (link on this forum) have x2 3800+'s at 35w. They are $400 though

To hrnygoat, I don't see how you can complain about 65w TDP chips...

This is great... first of the line to move to 65nm and hopefully we see some 3ghz CPU's soon.

For example, AMD told us that 65 nm X2 processors consumes only 7.5 watt when idle, while a Core 2 Duo chip runs at about 14.3 watts.
This is also AMD's first 65nm chip, and 65W is the base power consumption, instead of the 89W of 90nm. As 65nm ramps up in production more so im sure 35W variants and below will become available.
Lol.... What AMD forgot to mention was, they were running a low Mhz X2 under full power saving features and running the high clock C2D with no power saving features.

Jori... Intel has a 65Watt C2D's that consumes less than a watt at idle and 9 Watts TDP... Don't forget the Core Solo that runs well under a watt.

But its also clocked low (The 1W~ processor).

But how do you know it was running a low mhz X2 and a high clock C2D? AMD has very aggressive power management features, so I think its very reasonable.

Plus "Core Solo" is a mobile processor, this is desktops.

Its really just speculation, but why would AMD lie about their TDP when it will shortly be in computers?

I never said I was complaining. I was just making an observation.

You seem to say that a lot. I could say the same thing for Intel's Speedstep and C1E, which were very agressive on Netburst processors. However, "agressive" power management means nothing if you have a very efficeint chip to start with. For example, the X6800 draws about 20W idle with Speedstep and C1E disabled. Enabling them only saves a few more watts. Why? Because the gate leakage is so low in the C2D architecture that power management has little effect.

9 watt TDP? So we could cool those with the old sockt 370 heatsinks, yeah?
