7970 Vapor-X Disassembly

post #1 of 4
Thread Starter
Trying to put my Antec620 that I used on my 560 Ti 448 onto my newly upgraded 7970..

Intel(R) IPP JPEG encoder 7.0.1041 - Jul 19 2011;

However disassembling the Vapor-X cooler looks to be a little more complicated than my 560 Ti 448... More screws, thermal pads... etc... Anyone took off the sink to at least repaste or anything?

Not difficult at all. You only need to remove 4 screws around the core - this is what holds the main cooler in place.

You will have to work on it a bit to remove it, as the thermal pads on memory chips hold it in place.

That's what I figured. What did you do with yours?

Exchanged the TIM to Liquid Pro and the VRM thermal pad to Fujipoly Extreme (2 layers of 1mm).

Got 5C less load core temps and 14C lower VRM temps. Very worth it.
