Did my AMD A8 4500M Overclock itself?

Er.. O.k. there is something I'm not understanding about this APU.

The specs say it is set at 1.9 ghz - But AIDA64 is saying it's operating at 2295.9 ? AIDA64 is updating this in real time so I know it's really seeing whats going on.

Here are the specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03561498&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4132&product=5336987&sw_lang=

AIDA64 information:

CPU Clock 2295.9 MHz (original: 2800 MHz)
CPU Multiplier 23x
CPU FSB 99.8 MHz (original: 100 MHz)
North Bridge Clock 1297.6 MHz
Memory Bus 665.5 MHz
DRAM:FSB Ratio 20:3

I knew it "could" as in has the ability to go up to 2800 but I thought that was only if you bought that specific chip designed for that speed.

Could it be i thought I was buying a 1.9 ghz chip but it actually has the ability to scale up as needed ( and i didn't know it) ? ( if so, How to I make it go to 2800?)

It depends on how many cores the APU is using. It might be doing that on 1 or 2 cores, but not all of them. Less cores an task needs means that other core(s) can ramp up their speed.

Ah - It DOES scale up as needed. That is too Cool. I thought my cap was 1.9 ghz. I'm glad it's Not. I'm very happy to hear I bought something that will at least get me close to 3.0 ghz if it requires it.

So depending on the need, it does have the potential to reach 2800 speeds. This makes me feel very good about my purchase.

Thank You for the reply. I have to go off and do a Happy Dance now :-)

Edit:

I bought the laptop because it was the cheapest gaming PC I could afford 400 bucks with 8 gigs of ram. It has 512 dedicated for video but can use up to 4 gigabytes as shared video ram. So far, it plays everything I throw at ( FarCry 3, Black Ops 2, Borderlands 2 etc) it on high settings so I'm very happy.
