Question on 170's...

Thread Starter
Ok...just got a new built for my cuz...

Antec LAN Boy case
EVGA Nvidia 7600 GTS
Biostar TForce 6100-939
2GB G.Skill
Opty 170
Zalman CNPS9500

I've oc'd this on his PC...he is running W2K (Yeah...Windows 2000 pro...he haven't move to XP yet...)

Here is my question...

1)I changed his ACPI setting (in Device mgr) from ACPI Uniprocessor to ACPI Multiprocessor...do I have to do anything more for his rig to run 170 effeciently??? Would the W2K reconignize the 170???

2)Base on Biostar's system monitor software...the CPU is 51 to 55C on a consistant bases (clock speed @ 2.5 to 2.7Ghz~Vcore @ 1.4 to 1.45)...even I run the SP2004 (the GUI version of prime95) for 15 min the temp goes up to 57 to 60C...should i reinstall the system monitoring software??? Is this temp normal???

any help is greatly appreciated...

Been a while but I think W2K Pro needs SP4.
As said the temps are high... 50c @ full load is considered the safe max, the stock HSF shoud be able to handle up to 1.5v though as said, recheck the HSF's seating and reapply thermal paste, the pad that it comes with should not be reused.
If necessary, perhaps a Big Typhoon to cool that temp down.

optys, including the 170 shouldn't need any more than 1.4v to hit 2.6 GHz stable. my opty will hit 2.8 GHz on stock voltage.

what kind of HSF do you have? you might want to think about either upgrading it or trying to reseat it w/ as5.
