Strange OC, what's going on?

So I've yet to get a stable OC with my 3930k, trying for 4.4, CPUID is showing this:



but for some odd reason when I run Prime95 it becomes stable:



What is going on?

Edit: The images are hard to see, the first one shows core speed @1200mhz and the second core speed @4400mhz

This is the way it's supposed to work.  However, 1.464V and 1.488V seems extremely high to me.  Did you manually enter this in?  Or is it set to Auto?  What is your Load-Line Calibration setting?  The vRise here tells me that you maybe using too high of an LLC setting.

 

Also, disable CPU Spread Spectrum so that your BCLK can sit at 100.0 MHz.  ;)

I've followed a few guides because I seem to be having a hard time OCing, I cant even get 4.0 stable CPUID shows my OC but after a minute or so it fails and shows 1200mhz...I"ll mess with the LLC and see what happens

It's CPU-Z, not CPUID.  CPUID is the developer's name.  I'm sorry, but it's just that saying "CPUID" has a history of confusing people because there are people saying "CPUID" when they mean "HWMonitor".

 

Anyway, did you manually set that core voltage?  Or is it set to Auto?

Lol, sorry, I know that, just been a long day. Anywho, I dropped the voltage to 1.4, LLC is on auto and I disabled CPU spread spectrum and CPU-Z is still showing 1200...

The purpose of disabling CPU Spread Spectrum is to allow the BCLK to stay at 100.0 MHz.  The downclocking is normal.

 

What was making you end up using a core voltage that high?

Oh.  One of the ways you can do it is to set the voltage very low and then gradually increase it until you get basic functionality to the point where you can run Prime95 to test the stability.  Then you can go from there.

 

Of course, keep a close eye on temps using Real Temp.  Here's a cool (and superior) version:

Also, I believe one good LLC setting to use is Medium (25%).  This will result in vDroop (the voltage droops under full load), but this is fine.  The nice thing about a lower LLC setting is the Voltage Regulator Module won't get as hot which means achieving stability can be a little bit easier.

So it seems that having speedstep enabled was causing the downclock to appear in CPU-Z. I've disabled it and now it shows a steady OC. Now when I run 3DMark11 my score shows my GPU running a core clock of 500mhz when it should be 1050...
