H80i vs Scythe Mugen 2 - Closed Loop Guys Chime in Please

OK so I'm seriously considering upgrading to an all in one water setup in an attempt to provide the best cooling solution possible with my budget. Currently my 980 BE is cooled with a Scythe Mugen 2 which actually does a very good job (30C idle and 54-55C full load at 4.4Ghz). However, I know my chip can go higher if I can bring my load temps down more. My first thoughts were the Thermal take 2.0 or H100i but unfortunately I'm using an older chassis that does not allow for a top mount radiator . So it seems that an H80i is the best possible all in one that will fit.

My question is 1. Is this my best option given no change in case and ~$100 or less budget, and 2. Is it even a big enough upgrade to warrant the change?

IMHO, it's not worth it. How far do you reckon that you would be able to go? 4.6GHz? $100 for 200MHz? That's insane. For all we know, you might not be able to higher clocks.

I can bench at 4.5Ghz for 3D stuff but its not stable all 4 cores under load. With cold air from outside I can boot at 4.7Ghz. So, the colder my chip the more it scales with stability, however you have a point I may only gain another 100-200Mhz overall. Of course I could continue using the cooler as I upgrade later on, I'm just tempted to see what my chip can do with the best cooling for 24/7 as I feel I have a good Deneb example.

Anyone else have any experience in going from Scythe Mugen 2 or similar() to a closed loop water setup?

temps are already pretty cool 54-55 degrees. tbh I don't think it will improve your overclock at all. stick with your cooler

OK. This is what I was afraid of if I purchased it. I even considered trying to rig up an h100i outside of my case but I would likely have to remove the tubing to do so.
