ES Conroes or Retail

Thread Starter
Hello

I have come across two e6600 ES CPUs. One says QLLR ES MALAY and the other QJNC ES A4. What would the difference be between these two chips? Also would they overclock as well as current retail versions or would they overclock worse due to earlier steppings or something?

Any info appreciated.

Thanks

The ES conroes overclocked better than the retails do, I think they were cherry picked to amp up the conroe's hype. They're great chips, but the ES ones were a step above.

How do you even go about finding ES chips? How does one find them?

eBay, other sites. I don't think they're technically supposed to be on sale, but people sell them all the time.

ES cores are in fact cherry picked. They also have unlocked multipliers. For these two reasons an ES chip will spank the retail version.

Well, I purchased both of these as OEM chips from a retail outlet.
It seems intel might be releasing the ES as the OEM cpus, I think?
LINK See the part number at bottom of page indicating OEM or Retail.

Either way, I cant find a difference between QLLR and QJNC. I haven't found the stepping of QJNC yet. I can only keep one but which one. I cant put them into a machine and try them out. I must choose one too keep.

No, Intel wouldn't sell ES chips as OEM chips.

That link does state that is an ES (Engineering Sample) CPU. It's possible there is some confusion as to "OEM version" as neither the OEM or the ES would come with a factory heatsink......many people equate a bare CPU (no heatsink) as being OEM.
