Sabertooth P67 PCIE x16 no VGA detected

Hi all, I'm not sure whether to put this in here or in the graphics card forum. I'm guessing it's a mobo problem so I'll go with here for now smile.gif

Cutting a long story short (ish) my cpu started having a few heating problems so I decided to take off the heatsink and reapply thermal. On taking off the heatsink I noticed that the holding plate had snapped (cheap plastic) so I invested in a H55 water cooling kit. To install it I had to take out the motherboard to place the backplate, not a problem, and with it all installed and ready I slotted in my GTX 570 to the top PCI-E slot and powered her up. I instantly got the no VGA detected warning beeps, so I reseated the GPU and tried again, same thing.

After a while fearing I'd done something to my GPU I tried the bottom PCI-E slot and to my amazement my the screen came to life. So I started trying all sorts of things to get the top PCI-E slot to detect my GPU again but to no avail.

Things I've tried - Clearing CMOS, upgrading BIOS, reseating RAM, reseating GPU, different 6 pin power connectors.

I had a little bit of success earlier today. I was getting really annoyed so I stripped my whole PC and had a quick look at the pins in the socket. Seeing that a few of them were a little bent I straightened them back out. After I did that I slotted in my GPU and she fired up fine! Thinking I'd fixed it I put my PC back together and turn it on, no VGA detected beeps again........I'm just completely stumped now.

So my question is, what could be causing this? H55 Backplate? Waterblock bending the pins each time it's tightened? or is it possible that my 570 is to blame? Please help guys before I burn the whole thing on a bonfire.

Hello,

While you where building on your PC, did you use a Anti-Static cord?
I cant think of anything else, you should try use your GPU in a other PC to rule it out thumb.gif

Thanks for replying prescotter. I honestly think the GPU is fine. I am in fact running it as we speak, it's running in the bottom PCI-E slot instead of the top, which for case temps isn't ideal at all, my whole mobo is getting cooked when the GPU is under load.

I did think at one point that it could be my GC, but wouldn't it be the same outcome for both PCI-E slot if it had somehow become damaged? Wouldn't they both report no vga if my card had developed a fault?

Cheers.

Found out the problem for anyone reading this for possible answers. It was bent CPU socket pins. New mobo for me unfortunately as bending the pins back made the PCI-E slot work again but caused other problems like no display once the GC drivers had been loaded. Ahh well, I was looking for an excuse to get a z77 tongue.gif
