Need some advice on upgrading from a HD 6850 to either a HD6950 or going HD 6870 crossfire - Page 2

I think it would be a bottleneck. I've got a Phenom II 955 @ 3.5ghz and it can't handle my 570 at all (BF3, GTA IV, Crysis, etc)... and unless I'm mistaken a GTX570 is similar to a 7850 or 7870

I say go cheaper, unless the games you play are relatively less CPU-demanding

No man grab the 6950... i have 1 thats unlocked to 6970 as well its a great card~! u can always crossfire with another 1 as well, dont listen to those guys about the tahiti that guy is either an amd rep or copys and pastes the same thing in every thread on ocn! ( sell your current card for this much ) then buy this card for that much and get a free coupon?! Really dude iam sure the man already knows that, pick up that 6950 if u can get it at that good of a price u wont regret it~ what resolution are u planning to use anyway???

OP go for a single GPU. provides the most consistent performance. multi GPU issues like microstuttering and poor CF scaling in few games can be quite frustrating. also the 1GB VRAM on HD 6850 and HD 6870 is a huge bottleneck. BF3 at Ultra 4x MSAA at 1080p easily uses more than 1GB VRAM. almost everybody on ocn will advice you to go for single GPU. as for HD 7870 Tahiti LE its on par with GTX 660 Ti and HD 7950(800 Mhz). around 40% faster than HD 6950 at stock. with overclocking that gap increases to 50% and more as the HD 7870 Tahiti LE chips easily overclock to 1150 - 1200 mhz and match HD 7970(925 mhz).
