7970 will walk all over a 670 since it already gaps the 680 by a lot. You'd need at least 200mhz overclock on the 670 to get close to a 7970. That diamond is a ref card, and while it will be a lil louder it's worth it for the reference pcb.

And this comparo is w/o the new 13.2 betas which are even faster than the 12.11 betas. The Nvidia drivers on the other hand have not changed performance much at all.

I'm quite aware of that regarding benchmark scores & I don't care about that cuz I'm not a benchmarker.
I'm only concern about real-time game performance wink.gif At 1920 x 1080, difference is so minimal, both OCed or not.

BTW...I'm not comparing to a reference 670 wink.gif

1. He is your friend.
2. Both cards will handle 1080 about the same (7970 should have the slight edge although isnt noticeable at 1080p)
3. He is your friend.

Honestly, from this deal, the only con is that your pc will be a bit louder.

You're showing me only 3 games to prove a point while there are soooo many other games out there to make a comparison? This only tells me what the 7970 can do in those 3 games. That's all. I' know overall the 7970 is technically faster (that's quite easy to know) but overall the performance lead over a GTX 680 or a EVGA GTX 670 FTW, Gigabyte GTX 670 OC or ASUS GTX 670 Direct CU II (all use 680 pcb) does not make me do flips of joy.
Now for a moment, I thought about trading cuz I told myself I could switch to water cooling (which I really don't care for) to avoid that disturbingly loud fan (I not aware of any 3rd-party gpu coolers I can use on the 7970). But honestly, I really don't want to spend more just to keep a loud fan or keep the card cooler from a swap that's not really giving me much more than what I already have in gaming performance.

If I can be proven wrong, then maybe I would consider swapping but 3 games are not convincing enough whistle.gif

1) Do you say "yes" to everything your friend ask of you that requires "yes or no"?

2) I'm fully aware that the 7970 will have the edge & will not be noticeable while gaming @ 1080p

3) And my friend had asked me would I like to swap (or have 1st dibs on his 7970) before he put it on Ebay? He hope I would but already told me if I say no, no worries cuz he got money to spend.

You probably should have never asked this question cuz it doesn't seem like you were very open to it anyways.

Don't make the trade. You will gain an average of 10 to 35 fps at most. The amd card will be louder than your 670 and you never know when the amd problems will start to settle in. If you do get driver problems, then you will surely be ripping out your hair lol.

Now don't say that tongue.gif I'm stuck between what I'm comfortable in using (only owned 2 AMD cards) BUT always got props for AMD. I've just switch from an unlocked 6950 to the GTX 670 & went bananas over the performance. It's just that 7970 is kind of loud when I'm used to quiet. Maybe I'm over-reacting to the fact how loud it is when I'm used to having quiet cards. I like physX but I am aware that AMD got this little secret (forgot the name headscratch.gif ) to give physX some competition.

I've been going back & forward all day but I do have 2 days left. I've only read the 1st page of your link. I'll take some time & read the thread tomorrow (glad it's only 11 pages). So I'll at least take back my decision & let the time I was given to think about to make my decision wink.gif

The 13.2 beta series contains mostly improvements for Crysis 3. It has no improvements over 12.11 for the vast majority of games.

Catalyst 13.2 improves Crossfire scaling in Crysi 3 multi-player by up to 40 percent. It also adds a 10 percent boost to Far Cry 3 performance at 2560x1600 with 8xAA; improves latency performance in Skyrim, Borderlands 2, and Guild Wars 2; improves single GPU performance up to 50 percent for DmC Devil May Cry; and resolves texture flickering seen in DirectX 9.0c applications.

All the other "improvements" they are stating are mostly bug fixes such as the latency issues with Skyrim, Borderlands and Guild Wars.

The next time we get an actual increase is when they release the rewritten memory manager that the AMD rep spoke of.
