It just blows my mind that so many people disregard the information that you posted and simply only read 7970 vs 670. It seems at that point, logic goes out the window because the 7970 can be the faster card. Sometimes, more comes into play than fps.

They always forget when it's their card they are defending to the death.

I had to push my 7970 ghz to well over 1200mhz to beat my 670 FTW which topped out at 1315mhz in benchmarks. Is the Ghx faster. Hell yeah but in all except games coded to run better on AMD cards, the difference really isn't all that much.

Dunno if this helps, but with a single 7950 OC'd (stock volts) I get a higher score on Unigine Heaven than a guy's GTX670 FTW on Youtube. No clue if he's OC'd or not...but it's a 7950 vs. 670 here, I just compared.

one other thing to consider is do you use any of Nvidia's newer tech's like adaptive v'sync???

i have a 660ti and a powercolor 7870 myst ed. (tahiti le) .....the 7870 has better overall frame rates. but the 660ti FEELS smoother .....not sure how to properly explain that tho

Basically I sold the 2 680s for 870$... Got the 3 7950s for 750$.... will sell 3 copys of Crysis 3 and 3 copys of Bioshock... 180$

Snagged 3 Water blocks for my 7950s 300$ Subtract 180$ from 1050$ we have 870$

So i was able to sell my 2 680 4GB stock cooling get 3 7950s with water blocks for an even trade... the 40% performance and Silent operation = Priceless.

This is why the HD7000 Series is a great buy due to the deals u get and u can get other HD 7000 series cards and add on the cheap and get the most bang for your buck.

Nvidia is better for power draw and the drivers are better but that is about it....

An overclocked 7850 can Rival a Gtx 680...

So im going to say a Big yes to the trade.. Better performing card Plus upgrading / Crossfire is cheaper.

If your worried about noise get an Aftermarket air cooler or do Dwoods Antec 620 mod... U can Snag Antec 620s for 30 - 40$ all day long and his bracket is like 12$
Those 3 under water are going to murder 2 680's lol great buy.

With water blocks and the huge OC head room they givei will be out performing Tri Sli 680s by 10% atleast... while remaining dead silent and being 519$ cheaper wink.gif

If you have read my earlier posts, you will clearly see that benchmark scores are disregarded & have no weight in my decision. If you're now scratching your head after what I've said, you might self-destruct in a few minutes wink.gif

Ok...Homie is about to take his lady out so we're done gaming. Game performance (fps) difference was very minimal & was difficult to experience the difference while playing. Her are the 14 games that we had played @ 1080p & both own:

Far Cry 3
Crysis 2
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Gears of War
GTA 4
Skyrim
Crisis Warhead
Rage (had problems gettin' this to work properly with AMD gpu)
CD: Modern Warfare 2
BF3
Witcher 2
Borderlands
Fallout 3
Dishonored

So am I gonna swap my 670 Windforce OC for a reference 7970? I don't even have to think about it anymore biggrin.gif
How many ways can I say "NO?" Dr. Cox will tell you thumb.gif

The swap would have been good for me if he had either the Gigabyte 7970 Windforce or ASUS 7970 Direct CU II.

Thanks everybody for your input...I will rep those who truly understood my situation & had provided sound info biggrin.gif

I'm done...peace cool.gif

So basically al this thread is about is if a windforce cooler is better than a reference 7970 cooler? Also why ignore the voltage and fan profiles notes I gave you? You may laugh at people for turning this into a 670 vs 7970 performance thread but you have actively promoted it by your pointless thread.

Stop making stuff up. The thread title clearly indicates there is more to it than just 7970 vs 670 for those of us that took the time to read.

You want to talk pointless, your first post you told him he should trade and buy aftermarket cooler for the 7970. rolleyes.gif

He wanted an opinion of one card vs another the way they are. Not with the bunch of "ifs" everyone likes to bring in to make themselves look right.

The OP made the right decision for himself. He picked a particular 670 over a particular 7970 not 670 over 7970 overall. His decision was sound and everybody needs to stop attacking him for it.
