looking for advice on a VERY cheap, prepaid phone that can be tracked via GPS

I'm looking to "blojack" my car, but the original how-to's used boost mobile, which seems to have become less economical.

The idea is a hidden phone, hardwired to charge continuously, that can be traced with something like "mologogo".

I personally have a tracfone, which I would at least like to try if it was possible, but I would need it so that it wouldn't use minutes all day, which it might, if it would even work on my phone, because of the way tracfone data works (ripoff).

Super bonus points if I could get one that could run a program where if I texted the phone, or called it, it would flip a relay hooked up to my ECU fuse, and kill the car. Or if I could get one with lots known about the hardware and an easy to open case, where I could use the speaker signal to flip said relay, if it's powerful enough.

So basically, I need a super cheap contract-less phone, with a prepaid carrier. It would be best if it's either one that keeps minutes on it for a long time, or much better, if in an emergency I could buy minutes without having to touch the phone (like online) and activate it. remotely.

or
Viper has another system that will do similar things. High start up costs, but generally cheap subscription costs.

Oh god....

Yeah, I'm looking to do it the broke way. My goal is to, for like under 50 bucks, have a system that I built and understand entirely, and that gives me more power than a "legitimate" lojack or similar, or shiny pre-packaged smartphone compatable gps tracker.

I'd rather have done it all myself and such, anyways. I'm perfectly comfortable with a jerry-rigged phone. And I'd rather do pre-paid than anything with a subscription. Again, ideally pre-paid that I can activate in case of emergency, remotely, by adding minutes to an online account, even if it's been expired for months or years.

I have seen that there are ~$60 trackers that have a sim slot, but that seems to be the same as an expensive phone that you can't even take out and use as a phone, and I don't know how the sim would work with various companies prepaid stuff.

I just know nothing about how the different companies work, and what prepaid plans are the most compatible with those gps tracking apps.

Nah, it shouldn't be a big deal, and most modern phones should have the capability. Then you get it a cigarette lighter charger, and a lighter socket, and wire it up so it's always charging, or always charging when the car's on (whatever you wish) and hide it. That simple. Then you use one of these services that uses the app you installed on the phone to plot it's GPS coordinates on a map, and bam, your car's easily trackable.

My problem is finding a super cheap one with a prepaid system that makes it attractive for me to use like this.

Amplifying and using the ringer signal to throw a relay was just an afterthought, but a pretty cool one, I think. But not my main goal. But it should just take a little power amp, like one from a power window, I think, and a little relay.... could be wrong.

Virgin Mobile and T-Mobile have plans for $30 a month. Those would be your best options. Unlimited data and your GPS could run continuously.

The phone on the other hand is whatever you want. You may have to look around some deal websites for a good bargain on a phone or go to eBay and get one with a clean ESN for Virgin or just any GSM phone for T-Mobile.

I'd much rather have something prepaid.

It doesn't need to be tracking all the time, or even be cheap to track, because I don't plan on having my car stolen very often.

It just needs the ability to run the tracking app, no matter how it devours prepaid time as data, or whatever.

Any Android will do. Then find an app. This will work.

I tried the same thing a year ago or so with a HTC Desire and just used Google Maps.

I made a new account for the phone and shared it's location with my main account and so I could track it's position everywhere there was a data connection.

The app mention by Pings will be better suited for this.

They are prepaid. And again, both plans were unlimited data. Just depends on coverage (sprint and T-Mobile). For AT&T and Verizon, you'll have to use Straight Talk which is $45 a month.
