I7 3770K Voltage Intolerant?

Thread Starter
I have an issue with my CPU. If I set the Vcore at 1.3 or higher, I get a blue screen error code 124. This can happen at stock values and overclocked values.
I have recently delidded my CPU, but I have not damaged the chip from what I can see. I never tried to use 1.3v + before the delidding, so I can't compare in this regard.
I've tried tweaking the bios and upping other voltages such as the VTT and I still get the error code 124 during blend test. It fails in about 1 second!
Thank you for any help.

Uh oh. That's not good. I have pushed my 3770k all the way to 1.5 volts, without failure. This could be because of u got a bad chip or (most likely you DID damage your CPU while delidding. Even though you did not see yourself touch the actual cores, you could of damaged it when opening it , separating it from the IHS, or accidentally hitting one if the cores. It's processor is incredibly delicate. This isn't good at all. Sorry to tell you.

Before you chuck the chip, I would try to make sure the chip isn't bad. (i have lots of spares so this is the route I take)
1) unplug everything you don't need to boot into windows, and install clean windows
2) make sure your ram isn't the culprit test that if you still get errors use memtest
3) try different good ram, sometimes the slots are broken.
4) try different mem slots, use one mem dimm at a time
3) buy a cheap mobo from astek/asus/gigabyte/msi and test out your chip if your mem is good.
4) try out different power supply
5) try different hard drives
6) try different vid cards
just remember you spent ~$300 for the chip if you spend $50 and prove that it is/isn't broken its better than not knowing if you threw away a good $300 chip...

I've tested all of this except the replacement of a motherboard. I will look into this.

I think it's set to Auto I believe. The board has various protection settings and individual LLC's for different parts of the mainboard.
