New build from the ground up....finally back...2k budget - Page 2

For your budget I woukd get
i7 3770K
Asus saberbooth or Gigabyte UD5H
Sapphire vapor-x 7970 Ghz edition
G.skill ripjaws or Corsair vengeance 16GB CL9 Ram
Corsair H100
Corsair HX850w
Case is subjective but thw corsair carbide is nice
At least 128GB SSD for lightening speed boot

That would be around 1800Usd total. In the future u can throw one more 7970 in there.

I'm not nearly as methodical, well researched or obsessive as I was 4 years ago(I also have 7 times the yearly income). I have been looking into things a bit lately though.

I just started a new build myself.
Excluding monitors it is substantially below your budget. I try to STOP spending money when each additional step up doesn't matter much any more.

3570k + ASrock Pro4 Motherboard $235ish +tax at microcenter
http://slickdeals.net/f/5885042-i7-3770K-229-99-i5-3570K-189-99-i3-3225-119-99-Microcenter-to-BB-PM-FS-YMMV
consider this with a 3770k and/or the ASrock Extreme 4(which can do SLI and can do CF with a second 8x pci-e slot) under your budget. This is in store only.

16gb RAM
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/memory/display/crucial-ballistix-tactical-lp-sport-vlp.html
uses micron d9 ICs. Not as good as the samsung stuff but I don't think they have that in larger modules at a decent price
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148663
promo code- 10% off desktop memory EMCXVVM22

I got a Corsair HX650 PSU from Fry's electronics for $65

I am NOT well versed on SSDs but will likely be buying a 480-512gb one sometime this week. Cost is around $250-400 from what I see.

HDD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136874
I bought this. It seemed large and low priced. Performance shouldn't matter a ton since it's not the primary drive. I anticipate eventually getting two for RAID 1

Video Card - I'm not well researched. I'm going to use my current 5750 until the next gen of cards comes out. Then I'm getting 3x 27" 1440p monitors.

Cooler - I got an H100 for a decent price a while back. I'm using that

Case - Corsair Carbide 300r - $55 after MIR at Frys.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125413

Go with 2 of those OP, will suit you really good. thumb.gif

You are going to have heat problems in Crossfire with those cards due to slot spacing and the card exhausting into the case and dumping heat on bottom card. Not to mention there will be limited room for air intake for the top card.

CPU board cooler all have alternatives which will give 70-95% of the benefit (usually closer to 95%) for around half the cost.

Epeen could suffer with price deductions though.

Consider tuniq tx2 for thermal paste.

I'm not chiming in on the hardware aspect, but OP I've seen you ask multiple times about Windows 8.

I'm running Windows 8 Pro on my Samsung 830 and it boots from a cold start in about 7-9 seconds. I love it to death, but interface can be difficult to get used to at first. Once you get the hang of Windows 8 I don't think you'd want to head back to Windows 7. I think it runs much smoother, and all of the menus are so pretty to look at. I've had a great experience so far and haven't encountered any stuttering issues, or driver issues! I would go for it! thumb.gif
