while gimmicky, i can't wait to pick one off the shelf (no preorder tho) tongue.gif

I'm glad that they have a set date. I think it was ASUS that had committed to including the technology in their notebooks. It's also really awesome they have struck a deal with best buy to launch the device. I really hope this thing pans out, it has everything going for it.

Did you actually get a pre-order email about your specific preorder or just a generic one saying that you preordered and they would be shipping in May?

Also, yes I believe it was ASUS that will be implementing this in their notebooks. smile.gif

I believe they said you could daisy chain them together to increase the area that they perceive. You could likely get a super long cord and run it to your ''area'' for use.

Generic e-mail saying thanks for pre-ordering, sorry it took so long, you will be first in line to get yours + when it is going on sale.

I would have loved to see a demo notebook at CES by ASUS with the leap motion integrated.

At worst you can grab a stylus and make thin air into a wacom tablet

Rly? Is it pressure sensitive too? biggrin.gifrolleyes.gif
Meh, i''m teasing - I know it cannot be a cintiq.
But pretty interesting for the price nonetheless.

It senses in 3 dimensions, I'm pretty sure you can think of a creative way to make it "pressure sensitive"

It's a threat to every 3d input device(if implemented properly )
such as http://www.sensable.com/products-freeform-systems.htm

The Wii was big because of Wiimote.

The Wii was big because of Wiimote.

Until you've done a lot of writing on a Wacom surface, it's hard to grasp that most of what we associate with being able to write well has to do with the feel of the resistance. The same reason we rotate our pencils when writing, or prefer ball point pens. It seems really easy to write small and legibly in thin air with no resistance until you actually try it tongue.gif

Heck, it's hard to write legibly on glass until you get used to it. All of the Wacom pressure control on our end is done by feel, which would be completely absent from this. I learned the hard way by transferring from paper notes in all my lectures to digital ink in OneNote midway through last semester. Nobody really wants to write continuously in the air. It's just not fun.

I was planning on using wireless USB, but i did not know about the daisy-chain option .... that's seriously a big purchasing point for me thumb.gif

When I first ordered it, I kind of thought it was wireless since there weren't any cords shown in any of the first videos. So I preordered it and THEN realized it was wired. But it doesn't matter too much. Still dirt cheap and if I really love it, when the wireless/bluetooth version comes out, I will use that one on my coffee table for the HTPC!

I'm getting one mainly for HDPC use. Hope it works good with XBMC.

OT:
Does anyone know of a voice command thing I can use to start/stop/pause/play etc?
