me and sons 2 comp builds

Thread Starter
well me and my son decided to go and build us each a comp for gaming. this will be his first first time build (with my help of course) and he's pretty excited. usually he ended up with my previous gaming rig. tongue.gif
these are the parts were deciding on.

case- COOLER MASTER HAF XB
cpu - AMD FX-8350 Vishera
cooling - Swiftech H220
ram - 4Gx4|GSKIL F3-17000CL9Q-16GBZH 2133. (bought)
mobo - ASUS M5A99X EVO R2.0
psu - TOPOWER TOP-800WS 800W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Active PFC Power Supply
ssd - Plextor M5S Series PX-256M5S 2.5" 256GB
video card - this one is a toughy. trying to decide between a 7870ghz 2gig or a 7950 boost 3gig

i know the 7950 is the sure winner but price is beating us up considering each comp is about a 1000.00
so what do you guys think of this set up thumb.gif the parts will all be bought in the next 3 weeks

oh and he ended up with purple color led fans and i got green biggrin.gif

Looks pretty good, went a little overkill on the PSU, unless your planning tri-fire, for that setup maybe save a few bucks there

get a 7950, you could probably get one pretty cheap here. You can get this for a power supply http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151106

The 800watt is super over kill unless your'e throwing in more video cards.

That PSU is horrible but it would power that system. I had a modxstream psu and 500w psu only could power 305 or something close to that.

If you're having a hard time choosing between a 7870 and a 7950 just go with a 7870 XT. It's in between the 7870 and 7950 in both price and performance. Plus if you do go with the beefy power supply you can crossfire later to make up for the 2GB of VRAM.

I know it's out of stock, but here's an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202024
Just look for a 7870 with 1536 stream processors.

EDIT: As a side note, I see that you're profile location is California. There happens to be a microcenter in Tustin, California. Microcenter sells CPUs and motherboards for ludicrously low prices, as well as other computer equipment. If you live even 2 hours away I would still recommend checking the place out.

ok obviously i picked the wrong psu. it needs to be able to handle whats listed and possibly another video card for crossfire later on. oh and 100 or cheaper would be nice tongue.gif so what watt psu should i be looking at????

as for the mobo. i have had very good luck and experience with asus mobos. i picked this one because it supports crossfire. and it can handle the 2133 ram, and it has usb 3.0 on the mobo for the front 3.0 on the case. and its decently priced. and it overclocks also hehe.

yea me and my son play ps2. vanu, and nc as secondary.
