It's really noticeable when you are playing at 50fps and don't have a framerate limiter(ati/amd), tearing ensues, bad tearing. Trying to use vsync between 50Hz to 120Hz would be a stutter fest.

I play on 1920x1200 and most of the settings are on high except shadows which I set on low. I will eventually replace my GPU and I hope when the prices will go down by the end of 2013 I will get GTX Titan.

First, considering that I haven't seen much, if any drop vs. MSRP for the GTX690 (which has been out for quite awhile), I wouldn't count on see much of a price drop for Titans this year. Reference cards might see a $50 or even $100 drop once non-reference designs are released - assuming the non-reference cards don't simply jack up the price to $1100 or more frown.gif. FWIW, I'd love to get a titan for 25%-30% less, but just don't see it happening any time soon.

I don't own a 120HZ screen, but my understanding is that you mostly benefit when gaming avg. fps is well above 60fps. What "well above" means is a matter of opinion. I've read posts saying "90fps" or even "100fps" while other posts have said "anything over 60fps" or even "120Hz always is better." Personally, I'd say at least 75 avg fps or more. Not that you can't see a difference with less, but at that frame rate & higher, the difference becomes more meaningful (again JMO).

if you're gaming at 1200p and you getting as low as 30fps (according to your first post), I suggest not buying a larger monitor (1440p) even if it's 120Hz. I don't think you'll see enough improvement (if any) to make it worth the money - at least not unless you drastically lower your gaming quality settings. Even if you are able to increase fps enough to where a 120Hz monitor makes sense, would you enjoy playing games at such a lower overall image quality? My guess is "no" since you keep mostly "high" settings even if that means you get as low as 30FPS during game play.

My suggestions would be to either get a graphics card now, or keep saving your money until you have enough to get one you want.

Thanks for the comment.

I've actually decreased graphics quality. I don't use AA filters and high settings are not ultra high so I average at 50 fps it's just in some instances of intense fighting with smoke animations the frames drop to about 30.

So in Crysis 3 I get 50fps in complex maps and it only drops when I zoom in when using scope and shooting. Crysis 3 settings are low shadow and medium for all except one setting.

I guess I would save for GTX Titan... I thought that if AMD will release their 8xxx series in Q4 that will contribute to a price decrease of GTX Ti.

I would love to switch from AMD to Nvidia.

It will be doubtful for the Titan to go down in price. Wait until the GTX 700 series comes out. We may see a similar performance, but with a lower cost.

LOL in that I'd probably go AMD if it worked for more GPU compute/acceleration software. Not happy at NVIDIA nerfing that on the GTX600 line. Even so, looks like I'm stuck with green for a while.

With the great HQ graphics games now have, I tend to put a little more emphasis on visual quality. I certainly have a minimum acceptable avg. frame rate, but I'll put up with the occasional stutter (no choice with some games) to keep a little AA and HQ quality. JMO and I don't play FPS games much. Point is that since you already decreased those a lot for some games, I definitely think you are better off sticking with 1200p for now and saving up for a next gen graphics card (NVIDIA if you want). Hopefully that won't be a long wait (at least for NVIDIA since it's at best late this year for AMD). At 1200p, a GTX780/770 makes more sense than spending maybe double on a Titan. The only reasons you might even consider a Titan is either the GTX700 series also has nerfed GPU compute AND compute performance is below your minimum requirements (may not apply), and/or you plan to upgrade soon to 1440p (especially 120Hz) or higher resolution and don't want SLI.

Anyways, I think it's still worth getting a 120Hz monitor. Is BF3 the only game you play? There's lots of games where the 6950 can grab 100FPS+

What do you mean by Nvidia nerfing? sounds like milfing to me biggrin.gif I have no idea what it mean (English is my 2nd language). So you vote for AMD than Nvidia?
Since GTX7xx editions are not out yet, how do you know they will be cheaper? Let me ask this, why Titan is so expensive?

At the moment BF3 is the one I'm spending most of my time on. Then it's Crysis 3.
The thing is, I've narrowed down the game list genre as I grew older. It seems that I tend to go for games that have amazing graphics and effects as well as great multiplyer.

So I can't decide if upgrading to 1440 will result in bad experience since my HD6950/70 can't cope with the pixel increase.
