Dividing audio between computer speakers and HDTV ?

I just got a new PC and started using dual monitor setup, one for PC uses, the TV i've connected via HDMI mostly for movies and tv shows, occasionally i'll run a game on it.. Anyways, I don't know how to divide the audio, sometimes programs that i've opened on my monitor will play audio from the tv. it's a bit of a hassle trying to reopen things to try and fix the issue.

If it matters, I have my computer speakers connected to a Xonar DX sound card, and a HDMI cord running from my 680 to my TV.

So if I understand you correctly you want the sound to only ever come out of the Xonar sound card? If that's the case then its simple. You go to playback devices and disable all outputs (including HDMI) except the Xonar, which you put as default.

Okay, well to simplify the problem, I basically want to change my browser's audio to be registering to my computer speakers, rather than the HDMI output.
