Silverstone Air Penetrator. Case fan or?

Thread Starter
I can get some Silverstone AP121's really cheap, so I'm considering changing my casefans with these.

I already own an AP141. It's pretty good, but It's on my PSU..

How are Air Penetrators as case fans? Intake (and cooling HHDs) + Outtake?

Is AP more a casefan or are they meant to be good on rads/heatsinks instead. Or can they do both? smile.gif

AP1x1 fans make decent case fans, but do realize they are louder then typical fans due to the built in grill. IF you can buy them cheap, by all means go for it. it's designed to be used as intake fans. you can definitely go for quieter exhaust fans tho.

AP1x1 fans CAN be used for any purpose, however they are best suited for intake case fans. as for rad fans, you CAN get better bang from a scythe GT simply because you are not benefiting from the built in air channeling grill that are on the AP1x1 fans. (as a rad fan, air has nowhere else to go except through the rad so channeling the airflow makes no difference as long as you have the static pressure to push the air through the rad)

exhaust fans are simply there to remove hotspots from the case so channeling the airflow makes absolutely no difference since the airflow is going out of the case anyway. so typically you'd just want a weak and VERY quiet fan for exhaust. (on a properly designed case with positive pressure, exhaust fan is essentially useless since the hot air will flow out from the proper location anyway from the positive pressure)
