AB displays the voltage target unless it has been modified to display real voltage. Ghz bios/cards... much dislike.

Well.. yeah I guess... sadsmiley.gif

My card isn't a GHz one I think. The Vapor-X on the other hand is a GHz one, isn't it?

But no mine isn't the GHz edition. The "Boost" is referring to the 2nd BIOS that runs at 1000MHz instead of 950MHz.

Sapphire's GHz is either the Vapor-X or the Toxic Vapor-X one.

But say if it is a vdroop, how do I fix/correct it?

What program are you using to overclock? And what version?
Trixx 4.4.0b mod? Trix 4.6.0?

Older versions of Trixx pre 4.4.0 beta would incorrectly see the non boost voltage (aka 1000 mhz voltage) as the 3D (boost) voltage, and that's what it sounds like you are changing.

54.9% ASIC quality. I stay stock unless gaming and then do 1199/1699 @ 1.381/+0/1.663 I can bench at 1303/1907 @ 1.381/+20/1.7. I'm pretty sure if I could figure our how to feed my card more volts I could go higher my card never goes above 41 degrees and the vrms get to 64 at the highest(playing Farcry3).

I studied my voltages all day yesterday with GPU-Z and realized that regardless of what I set my Voltage to... when on load.... it'll always hover around 1.18v-1.21v

However when exiting a game or alt tabbing... the voltage spikes up to what you actually have it set to. Yeah, it's weird, I've also tested Force Constant Voltage and that works too however as soon as you enter a game or the GPU goes into full load, the Voltage goes right back to hovering at said voltages ^

So this makes me believe that the Vapor X 7970ghz is actually Voltage locked. Either that or the BIOS that we have on it have it locked and we probably need an older bios. I've tried flashing mine but apparently i get errors such as " Cannot Erase Rom ".

On a side note, my ASIC is 66.9% but I'm stable at 1200/1700 with stock voltage for Core and 1.6v for Memory.

If there is anyone who knows the issue or wants to correct me. Feel free because I am hoping I am completely wrong haha.

EDIT: I've also tried setting my Voltage down to 1.11 just to see if it'll undervolt and it doesn't. It stays at the said voltages also xD

It does this because gpuz only updates when it is the currently selected window.

If you're setting 1.381v and getting only 1.15v-1.18v at load, and 1.381v when you alt tab, or close a game, then please do the following test.

Find a really old game (around 2003-2005'ish), turn off AA/AF, and try running the game in windowed mode. Especially if you are on the main menu, which should avoid putting much load on the card. (UT2004 in windowed mode works great for this). Then check gpu-z and see if you are getting your 1.3+v. If you are, check the core speed. If it says 950 or 1000 mhz (even though you have it at 1150 or 1200 mhz), then you will know that that voltage slider you changed was for the non boost voltage (which wasnt what you want).

@And you can make GPU-Z update when it's not the current window, just check the background box....

Oh is it? I was using the TriXX 4.3. But the thing is I also tried using AB and CCC to overclock but the results were more or less the same. But oh well, thanks for the tip! I'm gona go download the latest TriXX now smile.gif
